Grey's AnatomyThere are good season finales, there are bad season finales, and then there was last night's Grey's Anatomy finale.  The episode couldn't really be called “bad”, because it wasn't.  It felt like vintage Grey's Anatomy, save for the fact that it ended in a horribly depressing manner.  The reaction across the internet has been bizarre.  The quality of the episode hasn't been called into question nearly as much as how the episode left most of the characters in a depressing state.

You can read about exactly what happened in the episode here in our recap.  One of the big questions, though, is how tough should a TV series like Grey's treat their characters in a season finale?  The only character to really leave the episode on any semblance of a high note was Addison Montgomery, but she's leaving for her own spin-off, Private Practice.

Yes, depressing end. Bring on a new staff psychiatrist, & group therapy for the whole bunch of them!

I agree with JB. Everyone on the show has some baggage and really, it's almost becoming too much. I missed the old Grey when it was comical and whimsically romantic.

totally agree with you on the finale being a total letdown. I won't invest any more time on characters the writers were determined to devestate. Grey's anatomy - RIP - you are no more.

Well, the whole season more or less sucked, so I didn't think the finale was that off base. In fact, it was more on track than many of the episodes we've seen this year.

I just read Shonda Rhimes blog on the abc website, and she said her goal this season was to "burn it to the ground" this season so she can rebuild next season. I think she accomplished that. Of course, it will be intersting to see if there are any viewers left.

If I quit watching, it won't be because of the finale, but it will be because of my overall disappointment with the season, including the shark-jumping ferry boat shows.
