Sarah RamirezSarah Ramirez, who plays Callie O'Malley on Grey's Anatomy, will spend her summer hiatus recording an album.  Now, before you conjure thoughts of Eddie Murphy and Don Johnson bleeding eardrums all across the land, remember that Ramirez is a Tony Award-winner and got her start performing in musicals.  She starred in the Monty Python-inspired Spamalot on Broadway before being cast on Grey's Anatomy.

This is interesting for a couple of reasons.  First, does this mean that Callie will be disappearing from the show after this season?  It could.  Ramirez may be positioning herself for a career after Grey's.  Seriously, who records an album between seasons of a television show?

I think it's GREAT that Sarah's going to record an album. As you said, she won a Tony award for her performance in Spamalot just before coming to Grey's and I thing that the fact that she's working with Eric Idle is a sign that it's her Broadway success she's promoting. The fact that Idle's involved in the actual writing may mean they're creating an extension of her role as The Lady of the Lake.

If that's true, then it's likely that Eric Idle will be the one producing the album. That's the time-consuming part of the process; Sarah's vocal tracks can be laid down in a couple of weeks worth of studio time and could be easily done during hiatus.

Incidentally, I don't think that either Callie or George is going anywhere next season on Grey's. The two of them make a great match and I think the dynamic between Izzie and Callie will provide great writing opportunities. Sarah's album and her role in Grey's will cross-promote one another and it'll likely be a great move for Sarah Ram

I think Sara Ramirez will make it big with her album. But, in the show, she made Chief Resident so I highly doubt that she will be leaving the show. Especially since they already have Isaiah Washington (Preston Burke) leaving. And T.R. Knight (George O'Mally) is probably not going to be on the show as much, since he had failed the intern exams. But, anything can happen. All we have to do is wait and see. But I love Sara Ramirez. She's my favorite actress and my favorite singer. I wish her the best of luck in her career, which I'm sure is going to be a big success.
