The big news on the Grey's Anatomy front the past few days has seen a supposed uproar from cast members regarding the surprise announcement from Shonda Rhimes that a Grey's spin-off is in the works, set to star actress Kate Walsh, who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery on the ABC drama. In the midst of this announcement, Katherine Heigl (who plays Dr. Izzie Stevens) has apparently broken off contract talks with the network. This all seems highly dramatic, the stuff of gossip columns, but there could be some serious ramifications for the future of Grey's Anatomy. Losing Kate Walsh is already a big blow as far as I'm concerned, and the fact that Katherine Heigl is upset with management is going to do nothing but hurt the show. I'm not saying that the spin-off is a necessarily bad idea, but it looks as if the way ABC and Shonda Rhimes went about announcing it was pulled off in a poor manner. To read the rest, click here.

i don't like the idea of a spin off. i'd rather see addison come back every so often. another show would dilute greys unless it's a completely different show. which it probably wouldn't be. izzie is definitely my favorite character on the show and she should get paid the same amount as the others.

I agree. I don't feel a spinoff is a good idea this early in the show. After all, it's only been around for three seasons. I may even stop watching Grey's if Walsh leaves. I think all the actors should be paid the same because it is an emsamble cast. I really hope the next episode is better than the last three. In my opinion, they were pretty bad, especially the last one. On yeah, and Addison and Alex better get together soon, or else...

Katherine Heigl is on the bottom of the acting scale as far as I can see. Screeching at the top of her lungs over some guy her character had know for a freaking month if that long is not great acting to me. If she left would not care one bit, the fact that she or her people had the nerve to invoke Sandra Oh's name in their pleas to get her more money annoys the heck out of me. If she if she thinks she is so worth whatever mula she is asking for, then she should try to get a raise on her own merrits and not invoke her coworkers names in her contract negotiations. She has no class whatsoever, but that is par for the course with this actress.

"Losing Kate Walsh is already a big blow as far as I'm concerned" ... "As much as I also like Walsh, the show isn't going to suffer that much with her gone." So which is it, Oscar? Big blow or not?

FYI, it has been reported elsewhere that Heigl, along with the other original cast members, have six year contracts. ABC approached the cast offering them raises, and Heigl broke off talks because they weren't giving her a big enough raise. They could very easily have kept her making the amount she agreed to. In her contract. Of her own free will. Nobody held a gun ot her head. ABC generously was offering to pay her more than they are obligated, and her egotistical, entitlement mindset, doesn't find that good enough. Let her honor her contract and behave like the immature, dishonorable, elitist snob she's showing herself as.

What the poster above said. Heigl isnt going anywhere as she has a six year contract. She only rejected the raise. Wonder why everyone's making a big fuss that she's gonna leave.

I personally can't stand Izzie -- omg so you expect me to believe that you have undying love for a man you barely knew? All you do is go around stealing people's hearts (literally) and then moping around. If you have a 6 year contract it's not like you can go and work on another show. If you don't want your raise fine. If you want to leave fine but don't forget that the contract stipulations are for 6 yrs and you can't do another show without ABC's okay. blonde starlettes come and go so don't go around biting the hand that feeds you.

I think people need to take a moment to separate Katherine from Izzie. Katherine (in my opinion) is a fantastic actress. As it is an ensemble cast, I think for the most part, their pay should be equivalent. Izzie does what Shonda and the writing team want her to do. Katherine plays Izzie to perfection. If her storyline is unbelievable, that is the fault of the writer's, not the actress. I think her "acting" IS believable, no matter how serious/silly her storyline.
