Every year E!Online's Kristin Veatch reaches out to fans of shows on the brink of cancellation and asks what show you would most like to see get a second chance.  This year, her efforts caught the ear of Gilmore Girls fans and the campaign is on, with Veronica Mars coming in a close second.   A quick surf around the web, however, reveals that the rest of popular media may not be so behind Veatch's efforts to get Gilmore Girls another season.  The more popular consensus is to put the ailing show out of its misery.   Is this one case where Veatch's sometimes effective efforts should be focused on a runner up?

A first run of Veronica Mars has never gotten less than 2.25 million viewers. So one of your statements isn't exactly true. Anyways, I think you're right. Veronica Mars should stay, but it is time for Gilmore Girls to say goodbye.

In South Africa we haven't started season 3 yet - but I have seen the first 6 episodes of season 3.
I think the Gilmore Girls should of called it quits a while ago already!
Please keep Veronica!! There is a whole world outside of America that don't seem to have a say on what gets canceled or not Most of our top tv series come from America... eg. Lost, Prison Break, Grey's Anatomy, Dexter...

Did you read any of the comments under the SOS results? The poll was completely useless as a measure of fan support. Not only were people able to vote multiple times, but Veronica Mars fans spread around a Firefox macro that could input 9,999 votes in a row hands free if they left it running -- which plenty of them did. Without using a macro, I could cast about 3,000 votes for my favorite show in an hour. And did. For at least ten hours of my week! I doubt even ten thousand individual people participated in the show. I'm not sure what kind of botting method the Gilmore Girls fans used to shoot past the Veronica Mars fans on the final day, but there's certainly no way two million people got online and voted.

Kristin hid her apology for not tracking IP addresses and being unable to filter votes by individual IP addresses in a sticky on the message boards, which are currently down, but which can be read when they come back up, here:

Gilmore Girls should at least get one more year to redeem themselves and go out in style like they deserve. The show was so successful until this season and it isn't fair to end it now.It is almost May and that is when most shows end their season so the writers would have to rush to come up with a series finale and it wouldn't be good. I love Gilmore Girls and know that this season has not been well-written, but the show and its writer's deserve a chance to end the show the right way.

With both of them being my two favorite shows on television, it's a tough choice, but I think if anything that Veronica Mars should go on for at least naother season. Gilmore Girls should go ahead with the potential condensed 8th season to wrap up loose ends and go out iwth a bang like it deserves. This season has been too much of a bad one to end it now, it's just not fair.

Veronica Mars, however, is potentially being cancelled, with producer Rob Thomas frantically coming up with a plan for next season. If it's picked up, VM will be in training with the FBI four years from the present, though we don't know who'll be picked up as cast regulars.

It's a 60/40 split for me, leaning towards giving GG the boot.

Well, there's nothing like a balanced argument. Certainly nothing of a balanced argument in your article. Perhaps, one might argue, the reasons for the Gilmore Girls being cancelled are also reasons to run the 8th season? One could argue, being fair and balanced, that as the quality of the show has dipped, that an 8th season would tie up loose ends and bring things back to an even keel. Thus, it could be cancelled for poor quality, or poor quality could justify a half-reason sum-up. But then I'm being fair and balanced. You're not. PS I don't doubt Veitch would love to drop GG and wave her flag for Veronica Mars - that's obvious to even us lowly readers.

i think the current season is pretty good though my view might be skewed by how bad season six was. plus - i'd take a friday night dinner (even in a generally mediocre episode) over any other show in a heartbeat. give us a full eighth season!!!

Tuesday nights are very exciting for me, Gilmore Girls is my number one favorite show. It will be sad to see that there will not be an eighth season.I dont think that they are being very fair to the viewers there are so many story lines left unfinished. For instance: What about Luke and Loreli? Will they finally get together. At least let the show end with a bang!I feel the show deserves that... I also feel that Veroncia Mars should still continue on for at least a season or two, it is still a young show. It just sucks, I love these shows!
