Lorelai - Luke Gilmore GirlsThis season Gilmore Girls has been limping along without its creator. Show runner Amy Sherman-Palladino left abruptly last year after a falling-out with the studio, and current head writer David Rosenthal has been taking a lot of criticism for this year's story arc in which Lorelai unexpectedly broke up with Luke and abruptly married Christopher, her high school boyfriend and babydaddy.

For years the show's focus was on "diner guy" Luke's unrequited love for Lorelai; while fans rejoiced when they finally got together, things sort of fell apart without that continued focus – and now that Lorelai has broken up with Christopher yet again, will the show ever get that focus back? Probably not. For one thing, they're nearly out of time.

I'm really hoping for an 8th season, and know many other fans that are hoping for the same thing. You mention "focus". With one more year, there will be plenty of time to get any story arcs completed and worked out. Sounds like you've already made up your mind about it, but I appreciate that you took the time to write the article.

If anyone wants to participate in the season 8 campaign that's mentioned in this article, please head on over to http://www.gilmoregirls.org for The Great8Mandate!

And for the record, I think ASP and DP left DR in a tough position. I doubt they could have pulled off things any better than he has. He's done a great job with what he was given. Long live Gilmore Girls!

I echo the sentiments above. The show was indeed left in a tough position by ASP and team. Season 6 saw the show take a decidedly more dramatic turn that any season before it, and these issues needed to be dealt with. DR has done an amazing job in having Lorelai remove any doubt about whether or not Christopher would eternally be that "what if" in the back of her mind. I for one am backing the Great8Mandate completely and am keeping a positive outlook for a season 8.

The remark was made that there may not be any reason for the actors to stick around for another season. It was the fans that made Gilmore Girls a hit series and gave many of these actors their break out roles.

I maybe an idealist, but I think the fans are a great reason to continue on for one more season and finish the series off right. I know that I for one, would think a little less of those who bailed out and would think twice before going out of my way to support anything else they were a part of.

I am (and always have been) a monstrously gigantic fan of GG, but I really feel like it's time for it to end. I feel like it's been pretty bad this season--not so much the storylines, but the writing has lost its spark. I'd rather see it end after this season as a once-great and still okay show than end three seasons later as a godawful bastardization of what it once was.

What makes you think an 8th season would be any better then this "limping" 7th season ? When GG was good, no show was better, but the minute ASP knew she was or might be leaving (and April showed up I think those two are linked) the show started to sunset. They need to end while they can stick to whatever remains of the "the plan" Rory needs to graduate, fly and be free and Loreli needs to try being a team with someone else for a while and it needs to end while it can muster anything resembling grace.
