The brains behind Friday Night Lights (FNL) may have to rethink their second season strategy before the flailing and ratings-needy series goes on to lose whatever fan base it has a hold on. According to the Los Angeles Times, its sophomore offering opening shocker has left Friday Night Lights loyalists wondering what the critically-acclaimed program has been reduced to.Now, more than ever, Friday Night Lights must solidify its grip on its existing fan base, aside from the pressing need for it to gain increased viewership. Its continued presence on the air greatly depends on sufficient patronage and following. To read the rest, click here.

I have to agree that I'm not loving the murder storyline. But I still love this show and I'm going to keep watching. Scott Porter said in the the interview on this website that even though the plot might be outlandish, Jesse Plemons and Adrianne Palicki really do an outstanding job acting the hell out of their scenes. I can get behind that, at least.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the murder plot I don't think it gets in the way of the true story. This show is just that good. I can pretty much overlook that part of the plot and return back to the rest of the story. I can't get enough of the show.

Bad as the murder plot is, it's better than the Spontaneous South of the Border Spring Break of Riggs and Six. But so long as there's football, the Taylor marriage, and Matt Saracen, it's all good.

I've got to agree with TheEditor. The south of the border storyline bottomed out in this most recent episode, and has been even more cringe inducing than the murder plot. However, I'd like to point out that on tv.com, the 5 episodes that have aired so far this season are rated as the top 5 episodes in the history of the show. Somebody out there is really loving this season. However, the show has been too fast paced; the plot lines resolve too quickly, lacking the realism that was such an important quality of the first season.

That's a very good point dbarrie. I think that things are going a little quickly. I heard somewhere (probably on this site) that the murder plot will somehow be resolved in a few more episodes. Trying to think of where I read that but I can't remember. Anyway, a few things do seem to be a bit rushed. This whole thing about going to Mexico seems to have been thought about, gone through with, and then over all in the span of a few episodes. Kind of odd.
