1. All In The Family- A hard decision but it's TV at it's peak. Witty, poignant, funny and undeniably real. It was a show that existed at one of the hardest most historic times of American history and it rose to the occasion to address those times.
2. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson- does it need an explanation? Carson was hilarious and endearing not a TV host among them can hold a candle to him. Carsons death was a tragedy for comedy, TV, and America as a whole.
3. I Love Lucy- Timeless genius. I enjoy this show just as much as my grandmother and for a show to still hold it's appeal after so many decades you know that it has to have hit at some of the innate truths about human character.
4. Law and Order
- sure it's just a typical cop drama but it's the cop drama at it's peak. It's hard to make drama's that can last the test of time but this one will make the cut I'm sure of it. It's plain. It's simple. It's well done.
5. Twilight Zone- it's impact on sci-fi is undeniable. At best half the horror movies made nowadays are just expansions or reinventions of classic episodes. To put it quite frankly "It's a cookbook."
6. The Simpsons- America's first family. Through The Simpsons we see ourselves for what we are rather than the sterilized black and white world of "Leave It To Beaver." They legitimized animation as a form for prime-time and their love for allusion has shown them to be far more clever than it's initial slap stick suggests.
7. Seinfeld- It's the one show that was able to truly encapsulate the world of dating in it's full comedic form.
8. Supernatural- Maybe this is my own sentiment but in a world of dramadeys and plot-driven super dramas Supernatural still stands as an example of genuine entertaining character-driven drama.
9. Golden Girls- Who would've thought that a show about the sex lives of senior citizens could be so funny? Marc Cherry apparently and I'm glad he did. This show had what is lacking in modern shows CHARACTER. Each Golden Girl had a distinct and strong character on her own part.
10. Survivor/First few seasons of the Real World- Not all reality TV sucks. This was back when reality had promise and class to present itself as an ingenious world of strategy and gameplay. The Real World at it's conception was an insight into the American psyche. It didn't flinch in the face of issues like AIDS and abortion and spoke of things most politicians were trying to unscrupulously sweep under the rug.

Well it was OK, but really the only reason I watched it was because of Joey's agent Bobbie played by the wonderful Jennifer Coolidge. I laugh every time I hear her talk. She is always saying the funniest things.

Spnf214..... I read somewhere that ... the oldest character Golden girl was actually the youngest one of them in real life.... I dunno how true that one is.....
Yeah that was a classic show!!!!

I love Lucy.... she may have been great... but her two kids use to grate on me a bit.... I have to admit.... They didn't really do much!!! she was so loud too.... really funny!!! I was sad when she died.... She reminded me of an old eccentric Grandaunt of mine.... who still is alive!!!! LOL!!!!

Josh

Yes I agree... She was the best thing about that show..... The rest was quite predictable and not funny!!!

Estelle Getty (Sophia) was in fact younger than Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Bea Arthur.

As for Lucy.... the way I think of it you have to expect the a series to decline towards it's end besides Little Ricky's birth was such a historic Americana moment it's worth a little bad acting
