Angry No Comedy Here!Tropic Thunder is an offensive movie that encourages bullying

I object to Tropic Thunder for its inaccurate, negative portrayal of individuals with mental retardation and for its extensive use of the R-word.
Tropic Thunder has
been touted as DreamWorks’ best
shot as a summer blockbuster. Para-
mount is the distributor.
The movie stars Ben Stiller,
Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black
as prima donna actors filming a big-
budget Vietnam War movie on lo-
cation. As a result of their direc-
tor’s efforts to create realism, they
are forced to become the soldiers
they are portraying.
Stiller plays Tugg Speedman, a
fading action star who earlier failed
in his bid for an Oscar as "Simple
Jack," a man with MR. "Simple Jack"
is featured as a film-within-a-film,
with Stiller sporting a classic institu-
tional bowl haircut and bad teeth.
The film within-a-film's promotional
poster bears the subti-
tle "Once upon a time there was a
retard." Elsewhere is the slo-
gan "What he doesn't have in his
head, he makes up for in his heart."
A satirical plot synopsis quotes a
critic as saying that Speedman'was "one of the most retarded per-
formances in cinema history."

I totally object to
the film’s repeated use of "retard,"
known as “the R-word," because of
its hate speech connotations.

The offensive treatment of
individuals with MR is woven
throughout the film’s plot. I
urge people not to see the film be-
cause it is demeaning to individuals
with MR and it will en-
courage bullying and prejudice and abuse.

IMO and that stands for "In My Opinion":

Though I haven't seen the movie yet (actually going to tomorrow), from what dakotamom posted above about "Simple Jack," I gather that the makers of Tropic Thunder were not intending to trvialize "MR," rather, movies made about fictional and nonfictional characters that have some form of "MR" AND the Oscar winning actors that portrayed them.

Movies such as "Forrest Gump", "Radio", and "I Am Sam" and the actors who starred in them, Tom Hanks, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Sean Penn, respectively, have made Hollywood hundreds of millions.

These actors do not have "MR" but took on these roles to show they're acting range and it "paid" off literally.

Sounds like instead of making fun of people who have "MR," Tropic Thunder is actually making fun of Hollywood and it's movies with the portrayals of people with "MR" and I use the term portrayal loosely.

But hey, that's just what I got from reading a couple of lines in a post...

just got back from seein Tropic Thunder...OMG my sides hurt I was laughing so hard! but I noticed that parts of this "movie within the movie" Simple Jack and it's commentary was missing...so there ya go....are you hypersensitive, politically correct people that see things superficially without actually thinking about a subject, happy??? YOU WON! do ya feel better about yourselves now...you're really changing the world you know? And my theory about Simple Jack which I posted a few days ago^^ was dead on. But I guess some people love making assumptions based on false perceptions and think they have the right to censor what everyone else sees, hears etc.

So give yourselves a good long pat on the back...do ya feel better now..YOU made a difference!!! You deserve a humanitarian award so you can show it off to your friends IMO
