Jimmy Smits as Alex Vega on CaneWhile CBS' Cane revolves around a Cuban-American family, executive producer Jonathan Prince admits that the series is not necessarily representative of the Latino community, nor does it always feature characters that can be considered as role models.

"This is television," Prince told the Deseret Morning News.  "It's a diversion. This is intended to entertain [and] provoke.  I think if we have a discussion that says, 'What's the responsibility of doing a show about a Latino cast and letting them be murderers and letting them be people who are angry at each other and letting them betray their families,' I don't know."

Like all communities, Latinos have some fantastic qualities and have especially strong family values which the show portrays. Unfortunately, as with all communites their is always a darker side - the shows also highlights this - but tempered with avenging those who have wronged the "family". I think it is great to see a wealthy Latino family who earned their own wealth portrayed on tv. Lovey dovey families do not make a great viewing - Cane has all the jealosy - love interest in abundence - sadness and fun - plus a real nasty dark side - all adds up to a great show. Lack of vision to drop a winning formula after one season, come on CBS have a rethink.
