NBC announced some good news for its quad of new dramas today, ordering three more scripts each for Chuck, Bionic Woman, Journeyman and Life.  While this is certainly great news for each of these series, it does not necessarily mean each show will be picked up for the full season.  It is, however, typically seen as a precursor to a full-season order.  Chuck and Bionic Woman are not big surprises here: both have received solid ratings, especially in the key demos.  Journeyman and Life getting re-upped is a bit of a shock, considering the declining ratings both dramas have received.  But, if NBC has proved anything over the last few years, it's that if they are confident in a show's creative direction, they will practice extreme patience.  FOX, NBC is not.  In related news, CBS ordered four additional episodes of the Jimmy Smits-led drama Cane.  Also, The CW commissioned three more scripts for their semi-controversial comedy Aliens in America

Life is balls. But Chuck and Journeyman are amazing, and Bionic is good if only for the great Sara "Starbuck" Corvis. Along with its 4 awesome comedies and Heroes, and with its track record of producing the best syndication shows, namely Seinfeld, it's probably my favourite network too. ABC and FOX cancel everything, you were dead on about CBS, who when they finally got something original (Jericho), they tried to kill it, and the CW has been around 1 year and has already alienated the audiences of 3 of their top 4 shows, Veronica, Gilmore and 7th... (leaving Smallville alone thus far.) So yeah, I will also salute the Great Peacock.

Good news for all four shows, though of the four, only Life is a real break-out for us. It's unique and entertaining. Chuck is okay, but the gag will get old after a short time. Journeyman is a great show, but the American public isn't willing to put up with something so brainy long-term. Bionic Woman is pretty mediocre, but hopefully it will get better in time.

having been a fan of the UK Office, I had trepidations here. Now I'm its #1 fan. NBC really is the gem of network TV--that it kept this show and 30 Rock alive shows where their heads are at. How refreshing in a ratings obsessed world.

Its so nice to see a Network taking a chance on a show that isn't a box office smash, and giving it a chance to grow and grow and audience rather than just axing it.

Oscar Dahl has got it wrong. I'm sorry, any way you spin it, Bionic Woman is utter crap. It could have been an intelligent, well-written and challenging show, instead, its this showy waste of an hour with bad special effects. People are saying LIFE isn't any good are wrong and have not seen it. It's probably the best show on network tv reminiscent of quality television programming you would normally find on HBO or Showtime where character development and deliberate pacing is emphasized. If you like actual GOOD television, not mainstream fluff, watch Life! I hope NBC knows what they got.

*neck bristles again at the "Quantum Leap" comparison*

ACK - anyone who has watched this show for more than 5 minutes would not be calling it a Quantum Leap clone. It's not at all like Quantum Leap. I liked the one article which stated:

"Journeyman is as much Quantum Leap or Sliders as Lost is Fantasy Island, or Robinson Crusoe."

I personally find it to be more in the realm of Butterfly Effect if anything. Please people - actually watch the show before you start making the Quantum Leap comparisons.
