Smoke Monster Taking Other Forms: True or False?

I've read and heard people mention Smokey "taking the form" of Echo's brother and whatnot...

I don't know if I was watching a different version of the episode or what, but I don't see the proof of the Smoke Monster taking any other forms besides Smoke (and I'm not talking about its ability to grab things, tear up trees, and fizzle away in smokish vapors...)

I'm just wondering if anybody here actually believes that the Smoke Monster has and CAN take other forms... I don't buy it!

hey BSTMSTR,

I think I am in the same club... Especially the Eko/Yemi exchange... Why not just use Yemi to take out Eko...

I think the Island can Manifest People (or likenesses), Like the Christian, Libby, Analucia, Yemi..... but I do not think it has anything to do with Smoke Monster...

Smokey is in a category all its own......

It's called innuendo. Lost is not the kind of show to spell it out for the viewer.

This isn't even a debate, we already know for a fact that smokey can take on different forms, Darlton already confirmed it.

hey Sugar,

Your missing a small but important word... in you direction to what Darlton and Cuse stated,..

that little word is... "GENERATED"

A Flash Light Generates Lights... but the Flash Light is not the Light..

None of the Ghosts has every touch another person...

Smoke Monster has...

To compare these two and arrive at the conclusion that they are in fact one in the same is over the top...

We saw in the first encounter with Eko, the images, Eko's Life Images.. It was here that Smoke Monster gained the knowledge of Eko's past life. And it was from here that Smokey was capable of generating Yemi to use for and against Eko.

But Smokey "IS NOT PHYSICALLY" The Ghosts...

That and Cuse has used the statement

"We have learned that the Island is capable of these apparitions."

This would tend to include the greater chracter "THE ISLAND"...

I think the errant statements from the people invovled regarding this show and some of the more, off the wall stuff... are nothing more than grasping at straws... They need to provide answers, and yet they write this stuff or direct its creation a bit off the cuff and then establish the parameters on the fly...

Not that that is a bad thing... but it leaves open the door to specualtion on whether what we have been told is in fact what it is...

To date we have not seen "A person/ghost generated by Smokey" actually touch another Live person..

And yet Smokey is more than capable of tearing the limbs from live people. You don't find this a bit odd?

It just proves the the Ghosts are NOT SMOKEY..

But mere "Wisps of Imagination" generated by and used for some greater purpose..

So, are they Connected in some extrodinary way... Okay... Smokey Generates Them... But Is Not Them...

They are merely and simply, Apparitions.....

after reading that page quickly one time thru, I do have to say that they seem to credit "the monster" with a lot of things that I usually associated with "the island"

Like the last entry of the "Unconfirmed encounters" section, it says: "Horace's nose is bleeding in this encounter, and appears to Locke in a dream, suggesting that this may be a result of time travel, and not The Monster"

I guess I never considered the smoke monster a mastermind entity on the island, since its always been refered to as a security system... (and because early on, Locke saw light instead of blackness) more of gentle giant, you dont want to irritate... or disturb the island because of...

It'll rip your limbs off for sure, but I just never understood why people say Smokey "became" Yemi, when it seemed the appirition appeared and then out of the blue, smokey showed up and took care of business! ...Rapid-fire action, not transformation...

your last thought is exactly why I tend to ignore the Producers Comments.. They are often vague and misleading...

If Smokey can BE A PERSON... why not just pick up a gun and blown someones brains out...????? Heck, even Christian picked up the Lantern in the IMD Cave... how much harder to pick up a gun???? and yet Smokey likes to stay gaseous to kill???? something is a but off with this picture...

Even the Lostpedia link seems to question its own direction with regards to Smokey.. the Quotes of the Producers really don't answer the questions..

No I think smokie is smokie and the gohsts are the ghosts. I'm undecided whether Smokie has the ability to manipulate the ghosts like puppets, or if he creates them out of memories (like the Eko flashes followed by the appearance of Yemi). Either of these is really cool though. Smokie is too noisy to pass for a ghost, lol
