| When Miles pointed up and said something like "We're way before dharma" i was chanting 'statue! statue! statue!'. I knew they were going to show the statue, but sadly they only showed the back. The most surprising thing though, was that the statue appears to be a girl. I might be wrong, i haven't seen any pics yet, but it definatly looked like a girl to me. There were a couple egyptian references. Paul's necklace, Sawyer mentioned Richard's guyliner (common in ancient egypt) and Horace was in it (horus). The statue appeared to be wearing a skirt, which lead me to think it was a girl, but his would also fit the egyptian theme as the god Anubis wears a skirt like thing. Who also has four toes btw. thoughts? |

| Man, something tells me you're really on to something here. One of Horus' children is some kind of bird man guy. As I recall one of the glyphs on the 108 minute countdown was a bird thing. I don't recall what the other glyphs were. I'll have to go start doing some web hunting to find it. The four sons of Horus help the dead kings make there way up to the heavens by way of ladders. Jacob's Ladder??? Another link. |

| I also knew the statue was what they'd show, but I was still excited to finally see that friggen thing! It looked like an Egyptian statue to me as well, with a dog's or wolf's head, human body and skirt-type outfit. I need to go back to my DVR and check it out.

| Seeing the Way Before Dharma blip was kind of a let down.... No where near long enough... As for the Egyptian references. All valid, except one I think... The Statue.... For the life of me, I can't seem to ever recall seeing a FOUR TOED EGYPTIAN. So... could this actually be the ALIENS that provided the Advanced Math needed to Construct the Pyramids? Or it as simple as Artistic License? LOL Has to be Artistic License. This statue has several influences... Easter Island Hats Animal Ears Egyptian Skirt Egyptian Ankhs in each hand Very Odd indeed..... writers could be using LCD.... LOL Hey Sugar, The Anubis thought is good. But after a great deal of hunting, I was unable to find a 4 toed reference, and all the ancient depictions clearly show the ears much much taller. This last characteristic seems to be the most telling.. and not once could I locate Anubis wearing such a head piece. The closest I found was Nefertari, and this was not an exact match. It seems reasonable though. Anubis is shown bestowing Life with the aid of the Ankh is several of the depictions I have seen. And the Ankh is often depicted being carried or held by Egyptian Gods, one in each hand.... |

| hey Hook, Throughout history, the expression of pi has taken on many variations. Petr Beckmann (Cfr., A History of (pi), Golem, 1971), offers an exemplary analysis of the concept throughout history. The Babylonians 3 1/8; the Egyptians 4(8/9)˛; Siddhantas, 3.1416; Brahmagupta, 3.162277; Chinese, 3.1724; Liu Hui, 3.141024 < < 3.142704; Liu Hui, 3.14159; Tsu Chung-Chih, 3.1415926 < < 3.1415927; Archimedes, 3.14084 < < 3.142858 (31/7); Heron, 3.1738; Ptolemy, 3.14167; Fibonacci, = 864:275 = 3.141818; Vičte, 3.141592635 < < 3.1415926537; and, finally in the computer language of FORTAN: 3.14159265358979324. Again, citing Beckmann (p.101): "There is no practical or scientific value in knowing more than the 17 decimal places used in the foregoing, already somewhat artificial, application". That the Egyptians had an understanding of Pi and for all practical purposes were finally able to design and build A TRUE PYRAMID, can easily be construed so many thousands of years later as having knowledge of Advanced Math.. I did not say Advanced Construction Techniques... 4500+ years ago, simple Division and Fractions could easily be considered Advanced Math.. That said... I do not subscribe to the Alien Landing at Roswell or Giza.... |

I think it's safe to assume now that the statue is probably an egyptian god, because of the ankh's it holds in each hand, just like you described. The question here is which one? Is it horus? Anubis? Furthermore, what does ancient egypt have to do with the island? Thanks for posting the pic Kev, i hadn't seen it since the ep. For some reason i get the feeling that when we finally see the statue, Richards face is gonna be on it. Sawyers reference to his guyliner was definatly a throwback to the style of ancient egyptians, i think it was a clue connecting Alpert to the statue. | ||
