I think Jacob and the cabin is a manifestation of the smoke monster. who is smarter than just a killing machine and it has been manipulating the others into following his orders

Henry Gale = Jacob? Ok, probably not since Richard knew who Jacob was back before Henry crashed on the island. I was just reading stuff on lostpedia.com and it talked about how Henry Gale is the Wizard of Oz and arrived in the Hot Balloon. So it seemed an interesting idea to have Jacob be the one who entered in a hot air balloon and hiding behind the curtain (cabin). Anyone have any idea if we're going to learn more about henry's story?

just a thought. who seems to know the most about the island and who has been there? who seems to know what to do about issues? and, who has not had a nosebleed? Faraday. And his mother is also Eloise, the woman who seems to be "in charge" of the island in the future. Therefore, my inane theory is that Faraday is Jacob.

Default just a thought

There is one other person who seems to know a lot about the island and its history, one person that has been seen in different time periods and one person who knows who has been on the island before. This same person is the only when time shifting who has not had a nose bleed and whose mother appears to be the "leader" three years in the future. None other than Daniel Faraday. This is probably a giant leap, but it seems to fit.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think Jacob is going to end up being Jack or someone related to Christian (perhaps Aaron). Here's my thought:
If anyone read my earlier post about "The nature of the Island", I believe the island will turn out to be the city of Atlantis. I mean think about it, the myth says that one day atlantis just disappeared into the ocean. Now, I think that Christian could be an actual descendant of the people that inhabited Atlantis. That would make Jack, Claire and Aaron also "Atlantians". It seems that everyone we see in the cabin is somehow related to Christian. I'm not sure I've done a good job at explaining this....but that's my thought.

Oh and this is a stretch. Really.

Jacob is Jack. Or perhaps more accurately, it's either future or alternate timeline Jack. It's the Jack that is attempting to manipulate the current timeline to his liking...to protect both the island (which i'm thinking he will within the next two seasons realize is as important and holy as locke or ben think it is) and his people, the survivors. That's why he wants Locke's "help" with. He knows that Locke has a communion with the island that even Jackob (feel free to use that when responding to my terrible theory) respects and cannot emmulate. Jack is obsessed with "fixing" things and the entire timeline/course of events on the island is his ultimate goal...the ultimate mistake that he has to fix. He's attempting to do that from some future state by communicating with whomever he deems to be a major influence/player on the island. This also plays into the "Lost Tower"/time loop theory that i believe whole-heartedly in.

Let's also keep in mind that Jacob has not contacted Jack, and i believe never will b/c it'd cause some of rift in the continuum.

And who does Jacob seek to hang out and party with him in his cabin? Oh yeah, Jack's dad and sister.

We also do know that Jack loves to grow crazy beards and how important he eventually finds the island. "we gotta go back, kate!"

Anyways, that's my story and i'm sticking to it. (for now)
I absolutely agree with this post. If you look at the origin of the name Jacob, it means "supplanter". In other words, Jacob is one who supplants the existing power on the island (Ben? Richard? Smokey?) Further, Jack is a short form of Jacob, although we are much more used to the form "Jake". Also, Claire and Christian begin to serve Jacob on the island. Some argue it is because they are dead, but that would mean Boone, Shannon, Eko and a host of others could be there as well. I think it is because of their familial ties to Jacob that causes them to help out. Further, the only line we ever hear from Jacob is the simple plea "Help me". Would it not make sense that "future" Jack knows present Jack is about to make a disastorous choice (calling the freighter) and needs John's help. Also, knowing what a disaster this would be, why didn't John simply kill Jack before he makes the call? He sure did in Naomi.I think we have already seen the answer to this question when John couldn't kill Charles Widmore because "he is one of my people". Locke can't kill Jack because Jack will become Jacob, so instead it is left to Locke, Ben, Christian, and Richard to clean up this mess that young (teenage rebellious?) Jack causes because of his lack of faith and understanding.
