Jacob is the incident. A scientist named Jacob broke protocol and wanted to travel through time, he used the Orchid station, which is built next to "rocks belived to be negativly charged antimatter" or whatever the guy said in the video. In the past Jacob suddenly appears in front of himself, makes physical contact and gets thrown into a state of flux in time. No one can see him for a while, he walks around the island, then one day. Another scientist sees jacob by chance(luck), but its because jacob while in a state of temporal flux wandered near a concetration of the "strange black rocks" which allowed him to briefly interact with the world. Eventaully someone relized what was happening and gathered more of the black rocks and put them in a circle in an attempt to bring jacob back into the real world, it worked. next they brought their insturments, tools, computers, etc.. to try to help jacob, all things that use "power" put out fields and such, these fields cause jacob pain hence he hates technology, and it tricks us into thinking hes some primative guy from way in the past, like the capt of the black rock boat. They decide to turn this to their favor and Jacob is just a scientist observing everything no matter how small and because he is in a state of temporal flux he is in the perfect position to observe 100% unseen. so they built him a cabin near a natural deposit of these strange rocks. makes sense to me so this must be true.

touzoku, thats a good theory. It's interesting and it makes sense, i like it. I wouldn't say Jacob is 'the incident' though, isn't it already established what the incident is? (idk the break between seasons has me out of it.)

After reading the new Lost book, The Myth of Lost, I am more convinced than ever that the solution to what is going on on the island is going to be quite simple. After all, how many viewers are really going to understand it if the solution is found in quantum physics and worm holes? Because of this, I now am of the opinion that "Jacob" is not an actual person. Has anyone here read the book? I promised the author that I would spoil it but his theory has me totally convinced as to WHAT Jacob is.

| Jacob Is The "Island's" creator, because i don't think its an island i think someone created it like its a massive Dharma station, i also believe the smoke monster is the cause of the incident and is like the fumes of negatively charged antimatter, i also think that Jacob is in complete control of the monster or Jacob and the cabin is a manifestation of the monster. It is also possible that Widmore has some kind of tie to Jacob like there related or something

I think it is someone new. Reason I think this is because in the scene with Locke where he hears Jacob call for help, just after Ben gets tossed to the wall, if you frame by frame the camera pan back to the chair, there is about 4 frames of someone sitting there and the profile is can be seen clearly and it does not look like anyone we have seen thus far.

Oh and in the DVD box set the same episode was commentated by the producers and they are the ones that pointed out that Jacob was real and that you could see him if you slowed down the pan back to the chair, as I stated above. But the image is not enough to determine the persons actual appearance, unless someone out there has eye scans of actors to compare the "eye" with. *chuckles*

I think Jacob is Jack. The names are similar, and Occam's Razor and all...

I still think Jacob will be revealed as his own character, if not a Hanso. but i really like the idea that jack could be Jacob. It would make a good twist. Heres an interesting thought in the case of Jack=Jacob. When Locke first visits the cabin Jacob says "help me". This could be Jack trying to send a message to Locke from off the island. Either to get Locke to try and convince jack not to leave the island, or to get Locke to help get him back to the island.

Jacob is the oracle. He is looked to for guidance. He gives information. He knows what must be done. The person who could do this is not someone from the past or the present. it is someone from the future. We are dealing with time travel here. A person from the future would know everything that has gone on. And who is the youngest survivor of the crash? Aaron.
