On the previous season of America’s Next Top Model, we saw plus-sized model Whitney Thompson battle it out with runner up Anya Kop, who eventually lost the title to the 20-year-old from Florida. Five years ago, Whitney began a modeling career locally, but never landed any major gigs. After being pushed by her family and peers to join the reality search for aspiring models, she auditioned and landed a spot in the finals of the tenth season of America’s Next Top Model.Whitney recently talked to the L.A. Times to speak about her experiences on the show and how she dealt with being the only plus-sized model in the competition. She said that her weight was “an issue a lot because the clothes didn't fit me ever, which they don't show on camera because I didn't make it an issue.” To read the rest, click here.

I'm glad Whitney is clearly an inspiration to so many who lack confidence because they're not what they see in the magazines. That bit about her receiving tons of letters from boys and girls who now feel better about themselves is great to hear.

I've only finally seen this cycle in reruns (On VH1? MTV? I forget) ... and glad a fellow Floridian took the brass ring. But to call her plus size drives me crazy ... she's a size 10! That's real-world normal .... listen, I'm a 14 ... THAT'S plus size! But, hat's off to Tyra and company for sending a message ... you don't have to be a stick figure to model. And, Stacy Ann, your HEAD is fat ... plus, you lost :P

I like how SHE is considered a plus size model. I feel like we weigh the same amount and I'm very average. It's sad when like, a size 8 is plus size.

I am glad that Whitney is so confident in her body, but sometimes it seemed to me like she had a chip on her shoulder about the whole weight issue. She kept calling the other girls "sticks" and talking about how they don't eat. I can understand that she had to be a bit on the defensive just because of the criticism she received from the modeling industry. However, if the message is really being beautiful regardless of size, I think she could have been embodied that more if she were less negative toward the models who don't look like her.
