It was the war of the Davids.   For almost the entire season, we had all assumed that David Archuleta was going to win American Idol.  He was the chosen one, the teenage wonder boy who American Idol had shamelessly pimped all season.  He acquired a phalanx of teenage fans across the nation, the text messaging crew.  He slowly found an ever increasing number of American Idol viewers turn against him, after performance after performance that sounded exactly the same.  It's not like he didn't deserve to be where he ended up, in the final two of American Idol.  It was that the too-much credit, the undue judges' praise, that angered the masses.  Still, the early season momentum of Archuleta seemed impossible to overcome for the other David.  It wasn't until the last few weeks when a noticeable shift occurred.  All of a sudden, it seemed like, yeah, maybe David Cook could win this thing.  Tonight, on the two hour American Idol finale, it actually happened.  David Cook won American Idol.

What a great show tonight! I'm so sad it's over, but absolutely thrilled that my guy won it! He didn't win because of some conspiracy (though Simon's comments certainly made me vote harder). He won because from about week 3 of semifinals onward, it has been clear every week that he was the most talented person in the competition (with Michael and Carly just behind him). He certainly didn't need to win to have a great career ahead of him, but he deserved it 100%. Well done, America!
And thank you Oscar and John. I've enjoyed reading your recaps and predictions every week and I'll miss them too.

It was a great show and the best man won. DC is so gracious... even when he won he asked the crowd to give it up for DA. What a great guy!

Fun little story. Did this happen to anyone else? I started Idol late last night. So I'm at the end & after fast forwarding through commercials, I'm like, 2 minutes behind. Ryan goes, "And the winner is..." and MY DVR STOPPED! I started screaming. Totally missed DC's reaction. Why doesn't my DVR KNOW THAT MY STUPID SHOW ISN'T OVER?!

Yeah, my DVR did the same thing. I was going crazy! At least it got the name in. I would throw things if they didn't have the winner's name. I missed the whole celebration part of it.
