The long, hard, bizarre journey is almost over.  An American Idol season is near impossible to judge while your in the midst of it.  It's much easier to look back after some time away.  The legacy of American idol 7 will inextricably be linked to the two Davids, and I suspect that years from now pundits will look back and wonder how the hell the schmaltzy teenager vanquished the polished rocker.  I wouldn't jump to conclusions (David Archuleta will win tomorrow) if the entire American Idol production hadn't.  But they did.  It was an almost uncomfortable experience watching all the non-singing moments of the final American Idol performance show tonight.  I can't pretend to know whether the judges are simply shilling for the Idol overlords, whether they've worked themselves into such an Archuleta lather that they truly believe what they're saying, or if they're just poor judges of talent.  Whichever is the case, it led to massive frustration from this viewer, and I presume a lot of you felt the same way.

Oscar, thank you for somehow staying sane and not committing suicide while watching that wretched finale. Your comments are 100 percent correct, especially the one in the live thoughts about how John Lennon would be offended by Archie's interpretation of his brilliant song. The top story tonight was the offensively shameless pimping by the judges. Also, crappy as both those viewer written songs were, DC's is soooo much more commercial. You said it would work perfectly on the soundtrack of a teen comedy. Ironically, all the people who would watch that movie and buy that CD are the same dumbass kids who vote for Archuleta, in spite of the fact that, if they thought about it, they'd realize they'd rather listen to Cook's music.

I am officially no longer an addict. American Idol made me sick tonight. I agree with everything Oscar said. I made a lot of the same sentiments on (in??) my last post. I'm over it. Can I change my screenname? The only thing that will change my mind is if David Cook wins tomorrow. But my husband says that is an impossibility since he (like acemondo) believes that it is the producers and not America who have the last say.

Every song Archie sings sounds like he is practicing the scales... I so think DC is more deserving... After all, managing to survive and stand out among all those "favorites" like Brooke and Jason and bring something unique and original and yet stay true to himself... what better idol than that?

What I don't understand is why the producers or any of the powers that be would want Archie over DC... It just doesn't make sense to me... I just do not see the commercial potential of Archie... It will turn out like Ruben and Clay... Ruben won the competition and yet Clay sells the most music.

And one more thing... Randy again said that Archie could sing the phone book... Funny.... He couldn't sing Chris Brown!

Bull!... I went into this night thinking Cook would beat Archie, but Archie flat our beat him. DA's voice was in the best condition we've heard it in all season. Also, the first performance was nothing short of spectacular. A classic song sung beyond expertly - it think your Archie hatred just won;t let you admit it. I thought Cook's best performance was the great U2 song - but Archie's Elton song was actually better - and that was surprising.

The other two performances weren't really close, beacuse Cook chose more poorly than Archie.

Overall - as usual, Simon is right.... Archie came to win, his voice was clearly at the top of it's game.

... and if you think Simon is in the tank for Archie, you're wrong, he was just on Leno espousing how he was rooting for Cook... but an objective view (unobstructed by hatred) of the performances gave Archie the win.

Watch and see... tomorrow Simon is going to come back (of course after all the voting is done) and say that after re-watching the show, his opinion of DC's performance changed... He'll either say DC was better than he said, or Archie was worse than he said... But by then the votes will be in... Keep voting... I can still get thru on line 05... Go DC!

I, FOR ONE, DO NOT HATE ARCHIE... The boy has pipes... no one can deny that... but let's face it... HE'S BORING!!!!!!!!!!... I don't want my AI to be boring!... I want him (or her) to make me anxious to buy their first album (like Kelly Clarkson OR Daughtry)... If his performance on AI is any indication of what his album will be like, I certainly wont be standing in line to purchase it.
