That last line is perfect. And to defend my man Oscar, the difference between Cook and Archuleta is that Cook at least occasionally (more often than not) succeeds when he changes it up. Archuleta fails every damn time he tries anything outside of his boring ballad box. I'll talk more about this in my podcast tomorrow with Oscar, but I started reading between the lines of the judges. Simon calling Archuleta "predictable" and after Archuleta's final performance, Paula said, and I quote, "I expect nothing more." Call it a Freudian slip, but that line speaks volumes to me.

Oscar is spot-on with his commentary. About the judges . . . you have to remember that when Idol first went on the air as a mid-season show, Fox probably didn't have especially high hopes for a ratings winner. A hokey old-time talent contest straight out of the 1950s? Hardly the sort of fare for a cutting-edge, push-the-envelope outfit like Fox. Won't last more than one season. So a couple of inept third-rate "celebrities" like Paula and Randy were probably the best they could dish up under the cir!@#!@stances. Little did anyone know . . . So now we have the Number One show with know-nothing hack judges who might as well be offering commentary on nuclear physics. Sure it's embarrassing. None of the judges have real musical knowledge. Simon has a measure of common sense (and a good tooth whitener), but he doesn't know a treble clef from a hole in the head. It's the amateur hour all the way around.

yes i meant flack dont know where aretha came from. flack was a great one also. i still think cook's rendition was very good and worth a second listen while others were forgettable and regretable.

Personally, I love David Cook's first song, okay with his second, and better than average but not as great as the first one with his third song. For Syesha, I love her first song and the other two were okay. For Archie, I love his first song, hated his second song, and okay with his last song. The ranking then is DC, SM, and DA, like Oscar's, but Syesha will go home unfortunately because the David v. David finals has already been determined ahead of times by the producers and judges. I like last year's Final Three better because I love Jordin Sparks, Melinda Dolittle (my favorite to win), and Blake Lewis. I love all of them and they all were up to peak on this night a year ago. Even LaKisha who ended up fourth is more interesting than Archie and better singer than Syesha. Sigh.

Yes, Cook has succeeded going outside his box - Archuleta has not. Simple as that.

Excuse me - David Cook got progressively worse with each song? I think not! Granted, Dare You To Move was offkey, but I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing was PERFECT. David Cook should win.

David C. is not a one trick pony. He can sing! His Phantom and Roberta Flack were great! I thought the whole night with few exceptions was really, really mediocre. Didn't strongly like or hate anything. It all seemed rushed and awkward. I hate to see this end despite the mediocrity because when AI ends it means...Canadian Idol starts...you should all try and catch some of that. Although , Brooke and Jason C. would probably be in the final of that...and our judges...whoa ! Hope David C. really rocks next week.

Archie the song vampire sucked the life out of 3 more songs. He is a very bad singer. And once again he is immune from criticism for a lyric flub (slight this time though). Of these 3 minimal talents, I thought Syesha was the best. I disagree strongly with the highly biased "judges" on Fever, I thought it was one of the best performances of this horrible season. Cook was boring, though not all his fault given the 2 songs he was given. My scorecard: Syesha: B Cook: C Archuleta: D AIAddict, were are you?
