American Idol finalist David Archuleta has won the hearts of millions of Americans. To his fans, he is idyllically sweet, naïve, and a representation of what American Idol is about – the emergence of fresh, new talent. However, there have been rumblings, rumors throughout the American Idol season that not everything was apple pie and unicorns in the Archuleta camp. David Archuleta's father was said to be overbearing, a brutal stage dad who made all the decisions for little David, including song choices, how he performed his songs, etc. Earlier in the American Idol season, Jeff Archuleta denied that was a stage dad, and that all the reports were basically untrue. He was lying. On the heels of last Tuesday's Top 4 performance show, Jeff Archuleta has been banned from appearing backstage by American Idol. He can no longer be in any practice room, in contact with the other singers, the vocal coaches, the band, anything. He'll be allowed to attend the live shows this week and next, but that is all.To read the rest, click here.

David ( although not my favourite David singer on this season's AI ) is obviously a very sweet and honest person. I think he will have the chance to mature more without his father, given that he will have the ability to make decisions on his own. I look forward to seeing that maturing process with him and honestly hope he does well with his career.

Jeff Archuleta sounds like a total douche. I really wonder if David would change things up more and perhaps be a more interesting contestant if his dad was out of the picture. I guess we'll never know.

wow the truth is out i doubt David a will perform any different than he has been performing his voice can't change with a person out the picture his moves could use some changes i think his song choices may inflict him though. we will see what he does in the next week.

IMHO I belive David has been emotionally abused by his father most of his life. I think his dad has probably brainwashed him that he cannot do anything right by himself. I think he sometimes looks scared before the judge's opinions are annouced because he fears his father's reprisals if he gets a bad review. I REALLY hope they do not let him sit in the front row where David can see him the whole time he is singing!

FREE DAVID ARCHULETA!!!!!! Maybe there is more than meets the eye to this young man's deferential attitude. It has appeared to be humility and sweetness but it could also be someone who is used to being controled and dominated. Time is on David's side he will soon be legally his own boss and now with his success he will be able to be financially his own boss. Let's hope he doesn't do a "Britney".

Whether or not this helps or hurts his performance, there is no question he will be better off without his father this week, next week, next month and so on. Anything that removes the man is bound to help David

David A needs this kind of stress like David C. needs our sympathy if he doesn't win. Why do we have to try to trash anyone in the public eye. I'm not a fan of his but who could blame him if he has a bad week after all this inane publicity.

I think this bruhaha is just a way to get David off the hook. Regardless of what his Dad told him, DAVID was still told by AI producers not to sing Sean Kingston's lyrics and he did. By making this all about his Dad, AI gets the wrongdoing spotlight off of David and their golden child looks more sympathetic to the public.

I'm not a huge Archuleta fan (I'm rooting for Cook all the way), but I'm sorry to hear it (and not at all surprised, given all of the evidence presented during the whole 7th season). I hope David A kicks it this week. As long as he can remain confident, he's going on to great things and his dad will be watching it from his TV set.
