Jason Castro is a likable dude.  Listening to his conference call with the media this morning, you can't help but like the guy – he has no ego, is remarkably laid-back and doesn't take himself at all seriously.  Unlike some American Idol contestants, the modesty is real.  When Castro was eliminated from American Idol last night, he was relieved – never has someone been happier to get the boot from American Idol.  The reason was simple – he had a hard time learning two songs in a week, learning three was going to be near impossible.  Below you'll find the highlights of the conference call Jason held this morning.

I caught Jason fever when he sang Hallelujah, and never lost it. He was and remains a breath of fresh air--I think the reason so many people love him is that he seems like a young man you could be friends with or have in your family--no hint of thinking everything's about him. Kudos once again to his parents for bringing him up in a way that he could come through all this smiling. For those who don't appreciate his musical style--you're entitled to your opinion, but please don't spew any more venom toward Jason. He'd never do it to you. And those of us that do appreciate his style--well, I guess iTunes and Youtube will have to get us through until his #1 debut album comes out!

Jason IS a really likeable guy. I like him. And certainly he is relatively inexperienced as a musician and singer, having only begun learning guitar and starting to sing about 3 years ago. And perhaps, just a little, maybe he has a tiny bit of an ADD-type condition? Or maybe he was just overwhelmed and felt insecure because of his inexperience, which impacted his performances. Either way, as likeable as he may be, and as much potential as he may have, he isn't ready to be a winner of American Idol, and I'm sure he came to realize that.

I was never anti-Jason. I just thought there were stronger contestants, and felt badly that someone like Carly or Brooke, who really wanted it, were voted off before Jason, b/c he wasn't a particularly good fit. That said, I would really enjoy seeing him in concert. I want to hear his original songs!!!

I agree too that Jason is just a nice, down to earth person. I really think he has a good voice. I think he just wants to do it his own way and hope we will see more of him in the future. Good Luck Jason!

I liked Jason best personality wise from the first time I saw him sing. His Hallelujah was amazing,I got my son to lend me Jeff Buckleys cd but Jason did it SO much better,Buckers always left me feeling depressed,Jason made it uplifting.Jason has such an amazing voice and manner, and his eyes are gorgeous, and I love the dreads. He is exactly the type of boyfriend I wish I had dated! And of all the male contestants,he is the only one I would want my daughter to bring home(if she were older).I think it all came down to the songs he sang, how amazing he would have sung "You are So Beautiful" by Joe C o c k e r for example.Making him sing Mariah Carey,Dolly Parton,Neil Diamond,showtunes....how could he possibly do well?None of them were in the same galaxy as his style. He has real raw talent,he hasnt been chopped up and spat out by the typical American singer machine.David Archuleta ,I dont get.David Cook has talent and should win.Syesha..what are the voters thinking?Does she get a head st

start of a few million votes for some reason?Seeing the so called great American public voted Jason, the contestant with the most actual talent out,I now think Syesha will win as I thought she would go really early in the show. She just mimics other singers, theres nothing "Syesha" style about herCould you ever hear her singing on a radio and say "Hey,that unique voice,it must be Syesha?"?Or would you think "ho hum,yet another boring female singer?"I totally agree with Texred, how proud Jasons parents must be.Michael Johns and Carly should still be there, above Syesha and David A,its not Young Talent Time,Its American Idol.

I just thought of something, picture this, you are stuck in a confined space and the music being played is one of the AL contestants. You have to stay put for 4 hours before they get you out. What sort of shape would you be in after 4 hours of Syesha?David A?David Cook?(ok,wouldnt mind him) but wouldnt the soothing happy voice of Jason be your first pick?It would definately be mine.
