You know exactly what American Idol wants. They want David vs. David. They want The Youngster vs. The Old Pro. David Archuleta and David Cook are completely different singers, appealing to vastly different kinds of American Idol viewers. We're not to the final two just yet, but it'd take a miracle to stop the inevitable David showdown. Tonight's show did nothing to derail that train. With only four singers left, there wasn't much in the way of results to show on-air. Ryan Seacrest told two singers at the start of the show that they were safe, and then we all waited forty minutes for the final results. Tonight's Idol was better in terms of the quality of filler, with Maroon 5 and Bo Bice filling the wait time between initial and final results. To read the rest, click here.

When Michael Johns was eliminated, I already thought that something was in the offing, that the forces behind the show wanted just one rocker to stay, and it was clear they favored David Cook. It would've been interesting, though, had Jason Castro made it to the final three.

Granted that Simon Cowell's 8-figure salary is a big nut for Fox, dragging out these results show to an hour with awful filler is viewer exploitation. It's like getting ballyhooed on the carnival midway. Enough already. Drop the ax during a commercial break for other shows and let's move on. One thing's for certain, the golden age of American pop music is not in our time. It's a long way (down) from George Gershwin, Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot to what I heard tonight from Moron 5 and Bo Peep. Nobody can write a decent lyric in this age of TV-induced illiteracy. Can I get a witness, witness, witness, witness, witness. So the stoner dude is history. One toke over the line, bud. Syesha's next to go, of course. She got political again, talking up Hillary and Obama. Big whoop. You gone, girl.

Good riddance to that 'dain bramaged' stoner. Too bad they don't get rid of the foggy brain-dead Paula.
