BuddyD, try this: listen to the Elvis version of "Love Me Tender" and then listen to Archuleta's.

i personally thought that Jason did a horrible job last night especially when he forgot the lyrics and started saying "doot doot doot". Archuleta seems boring and seems to only do well with slow songs, anything faster he seems a little geeky and kinda gay. just like Ryan said "seems like you are gonna faint when the judges talk" he still doesnt know how to interview. even though my genre isnt rock, I LOVE david cook. i love what he has done to be different and brings creativity. syesha is also great, but felt like on "proud mary" she was trying to imitate Beyonce's performance on Tina Turner's tribute. (but both of her performances were good)

Here are my rankings, after giving them some thought, and they are just my opinion, so please, do not go off on me Archelta: B . Strong singing, boring arrangements. I just do not enjoy watching him, though he is talented, but my 11-year-old niece does, so he'll kick it on Nickelodeon. He and the Jonas Brothers will smash it in that demographic. Cook: Much as it pains me, B or B-. C for Hungry Like The Wolf (why not REM, dude?!) and A for Baba O'Reilly (c'mon, he really gave it a great spin). That's a B, of course, but I take off points for song one, which felt so wrong (he seemed to be yelling it). But he still is my favorite. He's always interesting to watch. And if he doesn't win, fine. He is going to be the next Daughtry. Watch it happen. Mercado: C overall. B for performance, D for histrionics. Her singing was just fine, but she bugs me (I don't buy her, and I did buy Brooke). She is an actress, which is fine, but then be honest about it. She'll be fun on Broadway. Castr

I agree that Elvis can out-sing a 16-year-old American Idol contestant, certainly. But if you compare any performances this season to the real performances, the AI contestants are all terrible in comparison. Certainly Jason Castro couldn't hold a candle to Jeff Buckley with "Hallelujah," or David Cook to Michael Jackson with "Billie Jean," or Brooke White to Carly Simon with "You're So Vain." Doesn't mean the performances were bad, but even the best Idol performances this season fail to live up to the originals in any way, shape, or form. I'm just saying that the criticism needs to spread equally and not completely dumped on Archuleta's shoulders.

I love David Cook, but tonight just didn't do it for me. I wish he rocked out more than he did. I really loved the second song thought.

It's down to one of the Davids. I personally think Cook has the real BBQ. Archie is cute and well intentioned. I do like his ballads but week after week of hearing him leads me looking for strawberry banana icecream after his brand of vanilla. I do believe that he can clearly pick up where some other great ballad singers left off like Luther Vandross but he has a few more years of development before he can get to Luther status. Cook is the rocky road of icecream or like Forest Gump's box of chocolates. With him you never know what you are going to get but you know it's generally going to be better than all of the other idol hopefuls. I do like Jason but I think he's a goner! Syesha.... well, sista girl is just ok. Brooke won't be the next idol at all.

If you excuse a poor performance from a contestant becaue "he's only 17" then you need to raise the age limit. You don't apply different standards to the contestants for any reason. Archuleta is a song vampire: drains the soul out of anything he sings. I didn't know whether to laugh or barf during Love Me Tender.
