People need to back off on Paula - she is a human who makes mistakes. I feel quite sorry for her because the media treats her like a piece of dirt for the most part, and it's just not fair on her. Besides there is no way you can get rid of her without getting rid of Simon and Randy too - they have both said on many occasions in the past that if one goes, they all go. Paula is around to stay so get used to it. Give her a break!

Marla,
I think that performers like Brooke outlasting others is a direct result of unlimited redial. The contestants with the most persistant dialers survive. I have a lot of problems with this in that it makes the performances meaningless and is really a way of rigging the results.

My problem with Paula - and Randy too - is that they've stopped judging; there is hardly ever a comment on what the contestant did right or wrong, just cliches and babble.

These 2 factors have made this a singing competition in which singing plays no discernable role.

1 dimensional is a huge problem this year, most of the contestants have given the same performance every week. This is not a question of style, it is a question of artistry.

I agree that all the songs don't have to be contemporary, but they need to be more discretionary. There have been some awful narrow themes this season, don't you think?

I watch the show for Simon..he is the only one who is attempting to give some kind of feedback which (if the contestants would listen to) is helpful. Yes, he is sarcastic..but most of the time he is right! Paula blathers on incessantly about everything but the quality of their singing...(looks, personality, clothes they are wearing) which are important points...but as Paula has never been a "singer" she is in no way quailifed to judge their singing. Perhaps make her the "performance" judge and Simon the "talent" judge. This season the judge I consider to be a waste of time is Randy Jackson. I think he should be banned from ever uttering the words "I used to play with Journey" and "Mariah Carey" ever again. Randy seems to spend most of his time patting himself on the back...with a few "Yo Dawgs" and "that was the bomb" thrown in intermittantly.

The thing I find truly puzzling in this latest "Paula gaffe" is that for 7 seasons she has managed to never give a bad review of a performance...even Amanda's rendition of Kansas' "Wayward Son" elicted high praise regrading Amanda's look and authenticity. Kristy Lee Cooke in Paula's book was a shining star of beauty and grace...even Sanjaya from seasons past was adorable. But in her review of Jason Castro's song...which he hadn't even sung yet...she was clear and consise in her cutting judgement of his performance. If that alone does not lend credence to the rumors that she was reading pre-prepared notes written by someone else then I don't know what would.

Normal people get fired when they show that much incompetence.

dust420 - that's a wonderfully simple way of summing this whole thing up.

It's time for Paula to retire from Idol. Her last gaffe was her worst, but she has added little to the show for years, if not from the beginning. Her nonsenscial numbling may be one of many reasons the ratsings are down this season.

NO, the only thing wrong with Idol this year, well on every year, but this year it has really got on peoples nerves, is the voting. If you vote off the most interesting divercity and talent, Michael and Carly most, don't expect it to be fun and enjoyable. It's stupid to blame contestant, Judges or whatever. It's the voting, simple as that. If the voting isn't changed to next year, what I think producers will have to do, Idol is doomed.
