FlyFan - I really like that idea. Should have brought it up.

If you're going get rid of Paula, get rid of Randy Jackson and Seacrest as well. Jackson contributes even less than Paula - "I don't know.... it was kinda pitchy" -
and Seacrest is just obnoxious on every level. I'd rather see either one of them gone way before goofy Paula.

paula has been in the spotlight for over 20 years now and never has anything bad been said about her until the media decides to turn into a bunch of !@#!@s and pick her apart piece by piece she is the only reason that show is still popular i she would leave the show would fall apart and i'm not just saying that cause i'm a fan of hers but because its true yea she does make mistakes everyone does its called being human and sorry to say this but if not for her bad publicity about her mistakes idol wouldn't have any publicity at all they really do need her and not just for publicity she is the only judge who actually knows what its like to go through what the contestants go through every week she is smart and sweet and she doesn't deserve all of this bad media she gets for no good reason she deserves respect and i disagree with you saying that she should leave the show cause if she did it would lose the majority of its viewers

Oh, how the mighty? . . . Paula is so jaw-droppingly inane, and has been since day 1, but that's one of the reasons people keep watching. We just can't believe that someone on a hit show could be sooo like we are. If the producers really want to help improve AI, they should raise the age limit and allow votes for people you want gone. And I loved the sacred cow tipping!!!

I think they should get rid of all of them if they are getting rid of Paula. It is not so much about her than the dynamic of the group. Yes, she is usually good for only jubilant praise, but that's the part she plays. simon is mean, randy says "Dog, that was kind of pitchy" and then Paula puts a positive spin on it so nobody cries (too much). I think instead of firing Paula they should change how the show is judged. The contestants shouldn't get judged on rehearsal performances. Who goes to a concert that sucks and says "that's ok - they probably nailed it at sound check"?

The Eight Belles comment was low, Oscar! Some of us are still upset about that.
That said, I totally agree about Paula, but I think Randy should go too.
Paula has an easy out-she might be on Dancing with the Stars next year. So make it look like the scheduling conflict couldnt be worked out, she was ready for a change, and she decided to leave gracefully.

I thought the Eight Belles analogy was hilarious. A little sick, yes, nevertheless...

Paula is not drunk or high; she DOES however need to take pain medications for a chronic injury to her spine, for which she has steel pins and plates inserted in her neck and back. She tries to take as little medication as possible to allow her to function, and she is therefore in constant pain. That makes it hard to concentrate. Paula is an institution of American Idol, and the whole judging panel works because of her little personality quirks. Sure she's goofy, but she's a sweety and totally well-intentioned. A perfect balance to Simon's personality-- which I also like just fine the way he is. Both of their opinions are valuable and valid.

American idol isn't boring and stupid because of Paula; American Idol is boring and stupid because the majority of the Voters are middle-Americans, pre-teens and teenagers who are keeping the least-talented contestants in the running for far too long while the more talented are booted-off way too early. HELLO?! How the heck did BROOKE make it this far?!? Ridiculous. She has no range or depth, she's one-dimensional, and she's only a mildly talented over-all singer at best.
Changes need to be made in the VOTING and the song choices for American Idol to improve. And no, the songs do not all need to be only contemporary... older music is nearly always far more complex and just plain better in all aspects than is modern Pop junk. Classic songs can be performed in an updated style just beautifully, as several of the contestants have proven.
