Ignore Archuleta; he's not the issue. The question is whether to have a competition that is decided by many people voting fairly for their preference (for whatever reason) or by a few who have the time and motive to abuse the redial capability. Rigged or not rigged is the issue.

Oscar - buddytv is anti-archuleta - search your articles - is it because he was ID'd early as the one to beat? Do you have anything about cook or any other AI contestant in the hx of AI that is remotely close to the way you have treated archuleta? Your theory is just a poorly disguised way to get comments. And if you use David Archuleta in the title of any piece you will get a high number of internet hits. Why isn't Cook the reason AI ratings have gone down? After all, he only raised the bar of his performance about mid season; before that, he was in the middle of the pack. Your theory excuse is pitiful.

So you say this is just a theory? You stated that there are a "variety of theories". Funny, you didn't elaborate on anything other than David Archuleta and his fan base. Yep, I agree with KirkKing. Seems like you've got issues. To even think of this as a possibility for AI's drop in ratings is pathetic.

JazzyJake has it right (first page of comments). The producers wanted a "STAR" this season and front-loaded the top 24 with contestants with experience and previous record deals. I think it backfired. We didn't get to see talented amateurs mature week-to-week. Everyone has peaked early and are performing pretty much like their first weeks. Watch an earlier season and notice how the singers perform and look better every week.

Wave54 has a good point: a vast majority of this season's contestants give the same performance every show and it probably is related to the fact that they were pre-chosen. Chikesie, DCook and just recently Syesha mixed it up a little - to their credit (though Chikesie's bordered on the bizarre). Not only are the others single trick ponies, they've been horrible when doing anything even slightly different: Amanda, Brooke, Archuleta, Castro. Off point but: I can't figure out Michael Johns, he's a performer who I think has more talent that he showed, but I don't have a theory.

OK, since the point of the article has been totally missed - or ignored - by the Archuleta crowd: Maybe the editors here are anti-Archuleta for valid reasons: like he has shown no ability to sing anything other than cheesy ballads, like he doesn't connect with the lyric, like he's a statue when he performs, like he receives very preferential judging (flub the lyric? no problem), like he was being pimped by the show from the start as the next winner to the detriment of the competition I don't hate the kid, I think he has a pretty good voice, but needs to mature a lot as a performer.

Wow Oscar -- I was kidding when I laughed about the 'blaming Archie' thing. Its obvious to anyone who can READ and COMPREHEND what they have read that you were formulating a theory -- not out and out blaming the Cheeseboy. Boy do you know how to open a can of slimy worms and fling it around

Tonight (Rock Hall of Fame Week) Archuleta should shake things up a bit and do The Stones' Sympathy For The Devil or The Kinks' Lola. Seriously though I could hear Castro doing CS&N's Guinnevere
