The rest of my post below: Bo Bice and Chris Daughtry. Two rock guys that the Internet loved--but that America eventually put below first place. I'm not saying David A. is going to win. But I am saying that you're not giving his appeal, and his fan base, enough credit.

1) Oscar, nuance doesn't work. Despite stating clearly that this wasn't about Archuleta but an example of how his perceived voters have hijacked the show, a large majority of the responders here have their pantiies in a knot thinking this was an attack on the Cheeseboy. Arrggghhh !

2) Something AIAddict said the other day is very relevant: that she knows of people who have voting parties for Archuleta because they share his Mormonism. This is exactly why the votes per phone must be limited!People with perserverance, and a cause (be it a shared attribute, cuteness, whatever) are voting for non-musical reasons and have ruined what is supposed to be a singing competition.

Power voting is not the only problem with AI, but is is a significant one.

I repeat my assertion that no one likes to participate in a rigged competition: it doesn't matter if the judges/producers are rigging it or a fans with speed-dial, a mission and too much time are rigging it. Or the combination of both.

I think what needs to be done, is someone needs to smack Paula upside the head so she's not so airheaded. I mean, I've watcher her decline over the past few seasons. I mean, even as long ago as season 5 she was still giving out compotent opinions which really reflected what we'd just seen and heard, not all of this "I don't wanna be mean so I'm gonna give u lots of love" garbage. I also think yes, the show is partially rigged, and people are starting to notice which is turning a lot of people off, cause i mean, who really wants to watch a "reality show" with fixed results?
I think the show needs to go back to the formula that made it such a huge hit back in seasons 2-5. The way the pre-top 12 is run, have nothing rigged, maybe even bringing back wildcard week would help revive a plethora of voters who stopped watching after their Michael Johns had a pre-mature leave. I think people miss the time when they were watching a show where a simple average joe construction site girl or a

*continuation of last comment*

special needs school teacher could fairly audition for a show which could change their lives forever.

And yes, I do know I use "I mean" quite a bit in my last comment. I feel very Miss Teen South Carolina 0=)

Man - again, it was just a theory, and nothing against Archuleta. People are really defensive sometimes.

American Idol has gained at least one viewer through David Archuleta. I (like many others) have NEVER watched American Idol before this boy appeared on the show. To use one contestant as a 'scapegoat' seems a little simplistic and lazy to me. American Idol is still the top rated show for its two nights (beating out the second place by 20 percentage points) and ALL television shows are losing steam (could be due to the writers strike). Plus it is hard for any seven year show to maintain its high level of popularity. If anything, American Idol should thank David Archuleta for bringing in his huge and 'rabid' fanbase (bringing in tween girls by the masses) or else their ratings would be even lower.

An all new low for you. You also need to blame him for global warming, the war in Iraq and the high price of gas. GMAB, Oscar. BuddyTV wants Cook to win and you have proved you will do anything to make that happen. So bashing a 17 year old kid to help a 25 year old seasoned, sexy performer is a new all time low in media manipulation. Also, get some counseling b/c you have a lot of issues with unresolved teenage angst. Amazing how polarizing Archuleta has been this year, isn't it--especially with the media which has been smitten with Arch-u-Envy for months now. Get over it! Don't know who will win AI, don't care.

I understand the gist of your article, Mr. Dahl. I have issues with your viewpoint, nevertheless. As an adult Archuleta fan, I have become a power voter this season ( to my husband's amusement) because of what I see as manipulation by the Idol producers (Cook pimpage, anyone?) and also because of the viciousness of media/online commentary toward David Archuleta. Case in point: the cheeseboy comment above. Uncalled for, but quite common in the online world this season. DA isn't a bubblegum pop star -- man, I think his looks actually HURT him, don't they? He is a gifted young musician who has attracted a huge fanbase. Some might like the cute factor. Many appreciate his musicality and voice.

KirkKing, again, not blaming Archuleta. I'm posing a possible theory regarding his fans and their rabid-ness. But, this brings us to a bigger point - viewers see what they want to see. Nowhere in my article did I shill for Cook. Also, you're crazy if you think 1) I have an ulterior motive to get David Cook to win or 2) I think my opinion would ever, in any way, influence a voter.
