I disagree with the Achie theory. Don't go hating on the poor kid. But I do agree with the MJ and Carly theories. Ever since they've been booted unexpectedly, ratings have been plummetting. There are so many reasons to why AI've been going down lately. There is no single reason.

Idol is dropping in its rankings for several reasons. First of all...extending the results show was not a smart idea. 30-45 minutes is more like it. What's even worse is what's inside the fillers for the results show. Half the stuff is completely useless and weird...Another reason why Idol is dropping is because the Top 5 was completely wrong. Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado (As much as I love her) shouldn't be in the Top 5. Replace them with vocal power-houses like Carly Smithson and Michael Johns and then you've got a complete, fair Top 5. Plus...the judges seem unfairly biased this year...giving people like Carly bad critiques when she deserves "da bomb" type comments and giving people like David Archuleta (Btw...I do really like him...he's my second favorite) the greatest critiques when he doesn't deserve them. Voting hasn't been fair this year because if it had...Carly and Michael would be in the Top 4 instead of Jason. Anyways...now that Carly is gone...Go Archuleta!!! (I'm gonna

I really don't think it has anything to do with the voting or David Archuleta. I think the problem is that the final 5 are pretty one-note and terrible. If you've seen one performance from them, you've seen them all. Couple that with theme weeks that much of the American public probably doesn't care about (ALW and Neil Diamond especially), and I can see why people would jump ship. However, 22 million viewers is still nothing to scoff at.

The problem with American Idol is not Archuleta or voting. The problem is theme nights and limited song selection. For example, on Beatles night, the 12 contestants had only 25 songs to choose from (confirmed by producer Nigel). Many did not even get their first choice. The singers should be allowed more freedom to choose songs that will reflect who they are as artists. Don't blame the contestants who are doing their best to make the most of what they're given to work with.

Power voting had nothing to do with Michael John's elimination. There were plenty of contestants remaining who didn't have the power voters behind them.

The results show is too long - also there are too many promotions on the Tuesday show. Also, as evidenced by last Tuesday's total inanity, no one on the producers side is taking this thing seriously: 2 songs per contestant was too much - one longer song would have been better and then to change the format twice (regarding the judges' comments) is amateurish - somebody should be thinking all this through. Also the judges are bored.
