Good article in this morning's Baltimore Sun in which the writer agrees with me that this group has little commercial potential: http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/music/bal-to.idol22apr22,0,4783259.story

Tonight is a pointless theme week: Make the contestants sing a non-commercial genre; In a style that is usually used as a derogatory comment from the judges (as in "That was very show tune..."); Featuring a composer who generally writes for singers with wide ranges and big voices It's going to be ear-bleed bad, but blame the show as much as the contestants

It may be possible that Syesha is looking for some other type of success. Maybe the Jennifer Hudson kind. She's an actress and could be using a secondary talent to get some exposure and an opportunity to do what she is really passionate about. She 'acts' like a different diva every week. Whoooo knows?

And I agree JazzyJake -- tonight has the potential to be very, very, very, ear bleeding, have to turn it off and go back to the book I'm reading -- BAD.

Syesha might be a better actor that singer - I agree. I am so, so scared of tonight's show.

Wouldn't genre themes be better? Blues week, country week, standards week, rock week.... Or for this year's group I'd suggest: * Cruise ship week * Wedding week * Songs sung on Idol before week * Coffee house open mike week * Cheesy ballad week * Plagarized arrangement week * Songs bigger than my voice week Of course we already have 2, has-been hawking a new album "mentor" weeks

If anyone reads the Sun article, click on "Sizing up the idol contestants" to get the reporter's comments on each remaining contestant. It was cooler in print. See: BaltoSun Idol Article

Yeah JazzyJake -- that was a good article -- pretty right on. And you're hilarious -- your theme week suggestions would make a great SNL parody. And -- is anyone watching that new dance show on Bravo? Scary! Elizabeth Berkley is so taut and shiny that I was waiting for her face to split down the middle and reveal an alien or something. But if it happens I won't see it -- because I will NOT be watching that show again -- ICK! I'll wait for So You Think You Can Dance.
