American Idol 7: David Cook's Brother, Song Writing Finalists and Castro Exhales

A few pieces of news in the world of American Idol today. Nothing monumental, though one of the pieces of “gossip” is pretty funny. But, we'll get to that in a little bit. First, the news that every American Idol fan has been waiting for – Idol has released the list of the Top 20 Finalists for this season's American Idol song writing contest! Oh, I forgot – nobody was waiting for this news. Nonetheless, if you want to listen to the twenty songs vying for inclusion in the Idol finale this season, click on this link. Part of me really likes the idea of the whole song writing contest – it's kind of a cool way to find a single for the Idol winner. Unfortunately, those songs are never any good. Also, I find it a bit weird that the Idol winner's first single wasn't written specifically for him or her. Some songs just don't work for certain people. However, this year it should all be fine– the song writing contest always produces a big, cheesy ballad, which is exactly the type of song that future Idol winner David Archuleta performs well.

jason is from my area and he is family friends with my best friend and he was like an honor student in high school and she really doubts that he would smoke weed. and her brother who was good friends with him i know would never smoke weed so i really doubt he does. and i'm attending this wedding where one of jason's best freinds from his band keeping lions micah will be a groomsman so maybe i'll get an inside scoop? i know he was in a band and i went to some of those shows but that doesn't automatically mean they fall into that category. i had suspicions by his mannerisms but my friend said he's just always been goofy like that

Maybe Jason Castro should meet David Cook's brother who is suffering from brain cancer. In any event, kudos to the first part of this story. I hope they acknowledge Cook's brother & think it's great that his family found a way to get him there. That is very sad and I think more of David having found this out. He is certainly prevailing through a tough time. As for the second half, I'm taking 10 points away from myself for going to look for that Castro picture. It's stupid - if anyone is upset by it, they need a hobby.

He's a good guy, but definitely smoke weed. Mild, occasional usage isn't bad as long as you can control and not get hooked. Unknown to most, people get addicted to drugs by starting " light"

so i think he mite but hes not full on like a drug lab dude and that i think with the stipper story from david hernandez and him getting eliminated and now this i think jason definitely will be eliminated.

I have been watching Idol for seven seasons and have never written a comment about it so I may have a lot to say. In the six previous seasons I have yet to pick a winner. I have four second place finishes and two fourths. And although I don't think the best idol ever is in this group I do believe this is the best group overall. And believe that the kids that have been voted out of the top ten so far this season would have made it deep into any of the previous seasons. Two comments from this. 1. This is why good singers are in the hot seat each week. 2. I am getting tired of people saying some of the kids aren't that good and should have been voted off weeks ago. THESE KIDS ARE ALL THAT GOOD! My favorite idol has been from his first audition Chris Daugherty.

The 1st week he sang 'Shop Around' an upbeat song. He had great stage presence and received the best comments of the night from the judges. Oh what short memories everybody seems to have. The second week sang 'Imagine'. Blew the judges away, blew me away. And every since that performance, it seems everyone has been trying to find things to put David down about. I can only believe that either fans are mad because David has taken the contest away or that they can not admit that a 17 year old (who looks like a 15 year old) can have so much talent or can do so well. The truth is David has made the best song choices, has sang with the most maturity has shown as much if not more versatility then any other contestant this year. My favorite is still David Cook, which of course means he won't win. But I think he will be coming in second to David A who at this point I believe deserves to win

Most have noticed that I haven't said anything about David A yet. I have save David for last because I can't believe all of the bad, ugly things that have been said and written about this young man.

Since the 4th week most writers have been saying how boring David is only being able to sing ballads and that would fall down if he tried an upbeat song. Why from the 4th week.
