I can only explain it like this: I would rather listen to Modest Mouse than Christina Aguilera.  I would rather listen to Bright Eyes than Ne-Yo.  I would rather listen to Wilco than Michael Bolton.  My point is, I would rather listen to a mediocre singer sing good songs that a great singer sing mediocre songs.  This was the thought that most came to mind as I watched tonight's episode of American Idol.  Across the board, the performances were technically sound, so how am I supposed to rank them?  The answer is easy: in a completely subjective manner.  The rankings below pretty much only reflect how much I liked the song each contestant sang as opposed to how well they sang it.  Maybe that's not how we're supposed to judge American Idol, but it's all I got.

Flip Johns with KLC and you have my rankings. Yes, I'd put her top 3 on the night. It kinda makes me throw up in my mouth a bit.

I think Johns is one of the best in this group, and I have to say that he was rated too high here. Castro is very interesting, he either crushes it and is by far the best of the night or is very forgettable, he has no in-between; he is the Dave Kingman (baseball slugger) of American Idol. MY RANKINGS 1.Castro 2. Archuletta 3. KLC 4. Brooke 5. Michael 6. DCook 7. Seyesha 8. Carly.......It will be interesting to see who joins Seyesha and Carly in the bottom three this week.

OSCAR: The reason you didn't like 'I Believe' is because every song written for the winner of American Idol to sing when they win and then forced to record on their first album -- sucks big time. They have all been cheesy, predictable messes of what reeks about bad pop music. It was a seriously bad song choice for Syesha to make and she doesn't have even a little bit of Fantasia's gigantic personality.

In all fairness to Archuleta, during inspirational week, how is he not suppossed to sing a ballad. I was surprised David Cook didn't do a Bob Dylan song, as many of those could be considered inspirational and have also been re-recorded / re-arranged

Michael just outrocked our so called true rocker. And that last note is straight to Hall Of Fame of Idol notes. It's funny dilemma though, judges won't give him any hyper praises because they wan't to define him as someone else, but Michael doesn't want that. Who should you listen to, to do what do you like to do, or to do what judges (people?) wan't you to do.

TheEditor: Yeah -- it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit too. acemondo's gonna end up being right about KLC making it farther than anyone thought. She's like too much garlic in your dinner -- palatable in parts but then you just can't get rid of the aftertaste.

The KLC ascension has been the most surprising story of the season. I don't know what to think.

I have to agree with Pharmboy tonight On his rankings, David Cook is my favorite this year, but tonight he was way off for some reason....Jason Castro was awesome......KLC hasnt been my favorite among the women this year, but had a heck of a performance this evening...also I loved Brooke's version of you've got a friend. Carly was really off tonight also...I dont know why Seyesha even attempted to try and sing a song that Fantasia has sung and I'll be surprised to see on Thursday night who is in the bottom three, I think we will all be in for a shocker, but then again, from this point on we will all be losing someone we've grown to love because thats what usually happens from this point on right? But Again, Pharmboy I'm thinking is deadon in the Rankings here.....
