FOX is airing four and a half hours of American Idol next week.  This may seem like a lot (OK, it is a lot), but it's because Idol Gives Back is set to air next Wednesday and that's going to last for an incredible two and a half hours.  It's for a good cause, and it should a star-studded night of good times, but still – nearly five hours is a big commitment.  Unlike last season, the producers aren't even going to try and pretend that they'll eliminate a singer during a charity event, so the results show will air on Thursday.  Because there's not much in the way of American Idol news right this second (and my predictive powers are finely tuned right now – I guessed the bottom three exactly this week), let's try out some predictions.

Here's my prediction: mimicking last year's Elvis/Celine performance, someone (maybe Bono) will sing "Imagine" with John Lennon.

I watched the AI results show for the first time this week, and whew, was that one dragged out, painful hour of television. I can't even imagine the pain of Idol Gives Back. I think I'll just stick to the performance show, where I should be safe from people like Fergie.

I couldn't decide between 2 or 4 because they will both happen so I went with 4 because I figured nobody else would but I was wrong

1 thing everyone is forgetting is that they would cut someone during a charity week (unless i missed somthing) and so next week they will eliminate 2 singers and try and get some new ratings

How can you say that "every time Archuleta has tried something different, he's failed"? He sang "Shop Around" in top 24 week and killed it. That song marked the beginning of "Archuleta Madness" and was a pretty far cry from a ballad. It was the first time I ever tooned into the show and when he came out I was expecting some lame voice along the lines of Sanjaya or Danny Noriaga and when that voice came out of his mouth I said "Damn, who the hell is this kid?" and haven't been able to stop watching ever since. Yeah he messed up in Beatles' week the first time round but 1 bad performance in 7 isn't the end of the world, and considering stand-outs like "Shop Around" "Imagine" "Long and Winding Road" and "Smoky Mountain Memories" it is more than forgivable in my estimation. Plus all reports say that he is actually as sweet, innocent, and humble in real life as he appears on the show, it is not an act.

P.S. Also if you haven't heard the internet buzz surrounding his unaired performance of "Crazy" during hollywood week, that Gnarls Barkley would not allow on the show, you haven't been paying attention. Also not a ballad.

I personally really liked Archuleta's "You're the Voice" performance, but that one didn't get quite the unanimous praise. It was the highlight of that particular Idol week for me though.

TheEditor: They were trying to do Mariah Carey - Marvin Gaye duet but they couldn't get rights for that in time, so I don't think they will do any bring them back duet.
