It's going to be difficult to argue that tonight's American idol wasn't top to bottom the best of the season. There was not a bad performance on the night. There were some forgettable performances, sure, a couple of hiccups here and there, but I was generally surprised and impressed by the overall quality of the episode. I did not expect this. When American Idol has a mentor whose song book I'm largely ignorant of, this typically spells doom. For me, at least. With Dolly Parton on hand during tonight's American Idol, I was expecting to be bored and indifferent throughout the episode. Much to my surprise, I enjoyed (to some degree) pretty much every singer. This is doubly impressive when you consider my lack of fondness for country music in general. Tonight's American Idol performance rankings are below. To read the rest, click here.

WELL THIS HAS BEEN THE WORSE IDOL OF THIS SEASON. RIGHT NOW IWOLD SAY THERE IS A 2 WAY TIE FOR 1ST PLACE. JASON CASTRO DID A ALSOME JOB ON HIS SONG AND DAVI ARCHULETA VERY MATURE ON HIS SONG. I WISH THEM BOTH THE BEST OF LUCK

Oscar, usually I'm with you, but not this week. I hate him too, but technically, Archuleta was one of the best, if not the best of the night. Objectively. I still get sick every time I see him sing, but the kid did his thing. Johns was good, yes, but I still loved Castro and Brooke. Maybe it's because I've been rooting for "Joelene" all week, and I love it. Carly was indeed boring and will suffer because of it. Cook wasn't all that good tonight. And Syesha was pretty solid. People predicting her to go home are absolute fools. Sometimes it's all about song recognition, and she wins that huge.

Ramiele deserved to be in the bottom 3 this time but she should not be voted off yet. Her Dial Idol ranking is last and she was predicted to be voted off earlier. I wonder if they also covered the text or sms voting traffic which I think is Ramiele's greatest advantage. I'm predicting a shocking elimination tonight. Jason or Carly will say bye-bye.

TOP THREE 1. Michael - Two weeks in a row he was the best of the night, he is gaining of the favorites 2. Archuleta - I'm a hater, but his performance was solid 3. Syesha - Took a lot of juevos to partially attempt the Whitney version and I thought she nailed the high note at the end and did well throughout. BOTTOM THREE 9. Ramielle - Aside from boring it was not performed well, and the short skirt was unflattering to say the least. 8. Carly - Boring, boring, boring. 7. Castro - Same old song and dance by him

Nathan81, I think you are right. My prediction for the bottom three: Carly, Jason and Ramielle; with Jason going home. Look at the dialidol vote totals for KLC in NY and NJ where Howard Stern's popularity is highest, she is the #1 vote getter in both places. No way does KLC make the bottom 3 after Dolly night and sings one of her biggest hits.

Am I the only one who loved loved loved David Archuleta's faster-paced sort of deeper-voiced Shop Around from the Top 24? Since then I've started hating his constant balladry, even when he sings them well.

KLC has to go. Even on country night she can't sing better then any of the other contestants.

What the hell does Ramiele have to do to impress Randy and Simon? Jesus Christ, there have been worse performances from some of the other singers, but yet they constantly criticize her. I agree with Randy, who is Simon to critique the way someone dresses. This is supposedly a singing competition, not a modeling contest.

I don't understand why do you like Brooke at all? She has sang every song in the same monotonous way with no dynamics at all. Same goes for Jason. And this is their problem, because they can't go big or upbeat song. Same applies to David.A somewhat, but atleast he can get dynamics to a ballad song. Shyesha was vocally good, first part was great and I thought this would end up nicely, but it didn't, because she got whiny at the end. Ramiele and Kristy were same ol boring themselves. Liked Carly David.C and thought Michael was in other league to everyone else, his vocals were spot on.
