Paula Abdul isn't really taken seriously by anyone, except singers needing praise after a poor performance.  In this way, Paula plays a key role on American Idol.  She shifts the awkwardness from the singers onto her.  If three judges ripped a singer's performance apart right in a row, the viewing audience would feel bad watching the contestant try to deal with such criticism.  Paula not only provides the (often) lone voice of positivity, she generally makes a scene while giving off that positivity.  Not a big scene – just Paula being Paula.  This is comforting to the average viewer.  Given Paula's usual inability to speak ill of American Idol contestants, I was surprised when I found out today that Paula had made her final four predictions for this season.

with the fans doing the voting it doesn't really matter who she picks as being her favorites, that and the fact that she never has a bad word to say about any of them she is probably the only judge that I would be ok with making her top 4 predictions.

Well, three of them are in my top 5, so close enough. I think it's interesting that, this season, the guys are probably going to dominate in the end. I could actually envision the four remaining guys making the final four.

I agree, TheEditor. It seems that the guys might just be able to outdo the ladies this season, unlike past seasons. Surprisingly, I agree with Paula's predictions-for the most part. I, too, would switch Carly with Brooke. It makes more sense, and I think she appeals more to most people. If Jason can step up his game, though, I don't think an all male final four is impossible. Paula's opinions may be a bit influential, but I don't think many people will actually take her predictions to heart. She is, after all, the 'least credible' judge. I still like her though. It's always nice to get some positive input.

David Cook IS the "star" that Simon is asking the public to vote as a winner. He has been solid each week, showing creativity, preparation and his love of the music. Hoping he continues......a credit to the show, finally!

I guess I could see Brooke in Carly's place but because I like Carly more as a person, I hope Paula's predictions are right. A guy is totally going to win this season. None of the girls really have what it takes to succeed in this industry. Yeah, maybe Brooke will get a deal out of this but I still say that I can find girls on every college campus with her level of talent.

And after that Top4, I think it's anybodys ballgame. All of them have allready showed that they could be a American Idol.

Carly is doing Jolene tonight, which should be great.

I see David Cook, Brooke White, Kristy Lee Cook, David Archuleta in the top four. I know most have written off Kristy Lee, but if she keeps getting stronger while others make mistakes, she'll get there.
