American Idol's top ten performed tonight and the theme was a massive sham.  According to Ryan Seacrest, the theme of the night was “songs from the year you were born.”  Every American Idol contestant would perform songs recorded the year they were born.  However, almost half of the singers cheated.  Apparently, it was OK for the contestants to do songs that were recorded long before they born (or conceived, or even before their parents met) if those same songs were re-recorded by no-name artists in their year of birth.  Just once, I'd like American Idol to say "we cleared a bunch of random songs from all different time periods and the singers chose from the list we gave them."  No one really cares about the theme, especially if the various songs are going to span genres anyway.  Tonight's episode was better than last week, and I have no real idea who will head home tomorrow.

Wow, I didn't like David Cook's performance at all. I guess it picked up when the chorus kicked in, but mostly it made me want to run to listen some Michael Jackson.

Just curious - do you guys at BuddyTV have any interest in writing an article about what you think has been each contestant's best performance so far this season? I'd be interested in seeing y'all's opinions about that.

MayBey, good idea, but we'll probably save that more for the end...maybe Top 6 or 5. I generally agree with this list, though I wasn't as blown away by David Cook as most. He's had better, and Michael Johns was the true rock star of the night. As for KLC: Oscar Dahl is UnAmerican! I demand Joseph McCarthy investigate him for possible Communist sympathies. I believe if you bad mouthed a Lee Greenwood song in Kansas, you'd be stoned to death.

I completely agree with Oscar's rankings. I mentioned before -- but Ryan Seacrest announced before Davic C sang that it was Chris Cornell's version -- he wasn't trying to rip anyone off. Just like Chris Daughtry wasn't trying to rip off Live's version -- Ryan just didn't mention it. It is not either of their faults if the judges have never heard a cover of a song a contestant decides to perform. I thought it was smart -- he picked a song from his birth year and did an updated version os it that suited his voice. And I think Mr TheEditor is pretty hilarious. I was appalled by KLC's song choice and -- as mentioned on the Live Thoughts article -- did not even listen to it -- I just hit fast forward. Pathetic play for America's heartstrings. Cheesier than Chickeze Eze. I like that too buddytvgina: Cheesy Chikeze! And I just love to say his name Chikeze Eze -- Chessy Chikeze Eze, Okay -- its late -- I'm going to sleep now.

Sorry I wasn't clear -- Live's version of Johnny Cash's I Walk the Line, Chris Daughtry received a lot of flak for it and then Ryan cleared it up the following week. Goodnight American Idol History students -- there will be no homework this week.

Choosing Chris Cornell's cover of Billie Jean was bold, but not original as the arrangement is THE SAME as Cornell's, JUST as his Daytripper arrangement was (talkbox excluded) Whitesnake's arrangement. He is the best in the group at picking songs. Love him or hate him, he picks songs that have been covered with drastically altered and largely unknown arrangements and bases his version on the unknown one and gets all kinds of credit for it. His formula is and will be successful, but it is a predictable formula, just as Castro's niche is guitar ballads, Brooke's piano coffee house and Archuleta's emotional ballads. KLC made a very savvy song choice. Looking at the votes on dialidol, it seems she did well in getting votes. Her vote total was curiously high in New York, where Howard Stern is very popular, as I do not think there is a large country following there. She will last much longer than everyone thinks.

The best performances of the night were 1. Michael, 2. David Cook and 3. Seyesha. The worst: Carly, Ramielle and Chickezee. Carly and Ramielle sounded like karaoke singers and Chickeze was boring. Wow, Carly's husband is scary looking. I think this week's bottom three will be CHickeze, Castro and Ramielle. Ramielle should be going home, but I think it is CHickeze that will be sent packing. Cook has probably passed Archuleta as the one to beat. I hope Chickezee lasts because he is a charismatic entertainer, but I think the odds are against him
