If Ellen DeGeneres is a fan, then good things will come.  Apparently.  American Idol 7 hopeful and darling of the audition rounds Josiah Leming has reportedly inked a record deal with Warner Brothers, according to RealityTV Magazine.  You may remember Josiah as the sad-looking teenager who had been homeless for the better part of a year, traveling the country and sleeping in his car.  He was one of the final cuts before American Idol's Top 24, and after his elimination there was an unexpected outcry among fans.  Leming was one of the more unique singers Idol has ever seen.  He didn't have a technically sound voice (he often sang out of tune) but the distinctiveness was both undeniable and almost haunting.  It appears that Josiah made a big enough impression on the industry, and now owns a record deal thanks to the exposure of American Idol.

I'm...not sure what to think of this. I liked Leming a bit in the audition rounds, so I'd be interested to see what he comes up with. Plus it is nice to hear that a kid can go from living in his car to signing a record deal all because of AI.

This kid seriously screwed up in the final round of Hollywood week, but he definitely deserved to make the Top 24 more than Yeager, Menard, Haley or Berry.

Maybe he deserved it, but I think he would have sucked in the Top 24. He sings terribly out of tune and his voice really only works on original songs and not on classics. I think this worked out perfectly for him.

Look him up on youtube. He has a few performances of his original songs there that a friend let me know about - and they are not bad at all -- he will be even better once he finds his own voice and stops ripping off British bands. I agree with Oscar -- he is a talented musician/song writer and not suited to the AI formula.

Was he the one that sang Grace Kelly? Does anyone remember?

i dont think he can do a record deal. since hes practically living in a car, this whole hollywood life might ruin him alittle bit. he just really needs to get in a band if he wants to sing. he has that fall out boy/ yellowcard voice that can really get girls screaming for him. i hope he gets a few friends and makes that happen. i dont think he can handle a single but if hes good, then he can go for it.

He sounded a lot like the singer from Cartel to me and that is a good thing.

I like Josiah's recorded music, infinitely better than what was seen on Idol. The whole 'living in his car' thing was way overplayed, more a product of Idol's editing staff. Worked out well for him though.
