In a somewhat mild surprise, Amanda Overmyer was eliminated from American Idol last night.  Amanda was the rocker from the South with the Janis Joplin voice who rides motorcycles and worked as a traveling nurse prior to American Idol.  Amanda, it's been conceded, was the most different and unique singer in the Top 24.  Amanda was definitely her own personality, and she just put herself out there with no apologies.  Her elimination was surprising because, while her performance this most recent Tuesday wasn't all that great, she was coming off two very good and well-received performances in the previous weeks.  Today, Amanda talked to the press in another American Idol conference call.

I'm sorry Amanda is gone. She was a refreshing diversion from all the others. She had more passion for her performance than all of the others put together.

I didn't like her because she never seemed excited or grateful to be there. It's a huge opportunity to be on the show and she sort of acted like she had seen it all before or it bored her. Good riddance.

I'm not sorry she is gone. I didn't like her attitude, as I think many didn't and that is why she didn't get votes. She may have been differnt but I disagree that she had passion in her performances more than others. There are a few others that have just as much passion as she did.

She was great and I think America blew it. Great exit interview on Entertainment Weekly. She is fresh, refreshing and honest.

Completley disagree that she had passion in her performances. I don't know why people are so shocked. She was definitley one of the bottom feeders in the talent pool left. The only person I would argue is Kristy Lee Cook.

Though her voice is nowhere near the league of the other singers, including KLC, she was one of the more interesting. She had no chance to win, but was more fun to watch than most of the contestants. Having an over-abundance of "rockers" hurt her from both a vote getting standpoint as well as not jiving with the producers wish list of diversity as it pertains to musical styles. Imagine what her standing would be if she was the only 'rocker'.

Amanda... she's really a great singer, very unique compared from the rest of the finalists....., but I think her voice is not as flexible as the rest..., perhaps, she's out coz many ameriCanz doesn't want her attitude.,... but base on her perFormanCe on stage..., I bet she deserves to stay in the American Idol...,

One thing that struck me about AManda is that in these last two weeks, she's seemed over the whole thing. Once she realized that she wasn't going to win, I think she pretty much wanted out. I wouldn't be surprised if AManda is relieved to not have to go on tour.
