Beatles Night on American Idol was not a disaster.  Great.  This marks a victory for this crop of American Idol contestants.  I only counted four performances that I would deem “poor” tonight, which was less than I expected.  Speaking as a Beatles super-fan, I never understood the uproar regarding American Idol contestants performing songs from the beloved Lennon/McCartney song book.  Being allowed to sing great songs is never a bad thing.  Sure, there was the possibility that they would butcher these incredible songs, but doesn't that happen all the time with Beatles songs?  Regardless, I was more or less pleased with tonight's two-hour episode of American Idol.  I'm sure you readers will have some serious qualms with parts of my rankings below – feel free to comment and tell me where I'm wrong.  Remember, these rankings are only about my favorites of the night – they aren't about who I think will be going home.

I just went back and rewatched the parts I wasn't able to give my full attention to whilst I got my little boy ready for bed. Totally agree with your rankings Oscar -- and that is a first. I too am a huge Beatles fan and was really frightened about tonight -- but I must admit there was a palatable mix of the good, the bad and the downright ugly.

And I agree -- how dare Paula give that little creep props (albeit half hearted) after he forgot the lyrics! That kid should have been reamed by all three judges! I guess it is probably obvious how irritated I am with David Archuleta. I was only mildly annoyed before -- now I am officially on the 'Down with David A' Boat.

Yeah - if any other contestant did what Archuleta did tonight, they would have endured a massive reaming at the hands of the judges. The favoritism is despicable.

Yeah, if this competition were fair and America wasn't ruled by idiot tween girls who make Miley Cyrus the biggest star in the world and Zac Efron a sex symbol, Archuleta would definitely be going home. Hell, if any other contestant this season did that, they'd be going home. But, according to the early DialIdol results, Archuleta is the only singer they're predicting is definitely safe. Honestly, we were so focused on Danny, but what if....Archuleta is the new Sanjaya! I disagree with a few of these rankings (I didn't hate KLC as much as you, and didnd't love Overmyer as much either), but for the most part, they're dead-on.

THought for sure David A would go with Yesterday, I Will or any of Paul's 'silly love' songs that probably would have suited him better. He did a cover of a cover and did it badly. The teeny-boppers will keep him in, so he and FOX have nothing to worry about this week. I believe his commercial viability post-idol will be limited exclusively the Back Street Boys, N'Sync demogrphic.

David Cook is a poor man's goo goo dolls, and that is not a compliment. His version was of Elenor Rigby was as over-done as David H's, just in a different way.

Michael and Brooke are the ones that are the most commercially viable of the contestants . I think it could come down to these two, but Brooke is the one to beat, not Archuleta.

seriously editior, your comments about 'idiot tween girls' was way outta line. the scenario you describe is part of adolescence and i think 'idiot reviewers' sometimes forget what it was like to BE a child or what it MEANS to be a child. besides which, bubblegum pop lovers have always seemed like their main target. the only 'idol' i've liked over all the seasons, musically, was carrie, and country isn't the only genre to which i listen.

The judgeds are not looking for a copy of the original, because they are not the original. David Cook continues to switch it up, more than most of the others. The ranking of David Cook is way off. He did a fantastic job and the judges agreed. He was pumped about his performance and so was the judges, including Simon. There is no way that Michael Johns and especially Jason Castro had better performances. Jason Castro showed how weak his voice really is. He did not hit notes and his voice just gave out, much like David A. who forgot the words.

Shocked, stunned, and amazed by Chikezie. I thought this was the best performance of anyone this season. Almost equally impressed by Amanda. I place her second. Carly was equally good, as usual. Is this why you don't like her, Oscar, because she is predictable? Even though she is predictably great?
Brooke, David Cook, Jason, Michael, and Kristy Lee were good too, though not outstanding. Syesha and David were passable. I am really impressed with the group this year. I can't think of another season where 10 out of 12 were good.
The worst by far: Ramiele who is boring me to the point that I simply don't want to hear any more. Archuleta, who bombed soundly and completely.
Who I would like to go home: Ramiele.
Who will probably go home: Hernandez or Kristy.
