David Cook and Jason Castro, American IdolThis is hard. In the first week of American Idol performances, Jason Castro was my top pick. Last week, it was David Cook. This week, they rank numbers one and two. It's clear that I've settled on the two guys I adore and will root for as hard as I can.

But the hard part at this point in American Idol is that reasonable arguments can be made for why any of these eight guys will and should stay. However, predictions for who will go home are for later. First, here are my personal rankings of the top 8 male performances. Remember, this has nothing to do with who I think is staying, just the ones I loved and hated the most.

Cook could be the first rocker to win!

That homelessness thing from Archuleta was unbearable. That sort of thing really makes you unlikable, in my eyes. Cook and Castro were awesome. And, John, I'm with you - Noriega is a keeper.

Thought David Cook was great. Don't really get the Jason Castro raves...although I would probably go see someone like him at some summer festival. Hope Danny stays...he's fun. Do the singers seem to be more openly defiant with the judges this year?

I think Menard and Noriega go. The latter because he's competing for the same voters as Archuleta - and because he's annoying and hasn't given a good performance....

I agree with most of the rankings -- except Luke Menard -- but he has replaced Jason Yeager in my yuck category -- his blank stare when he sings kinda creeps me out and Wham! done acapella/musical theater style?? -- yes upper register is the right term -- Blech! I may not be being fair to Luke -- considering he is my new ick factor -- so I'll shut up now
In response to a prior post: Yup JazzyJake -- I like Chikeze too and think he is talented -- he's just a little old fashioned compared to some of the other guys -- kinda Season 3 caliber. I've come to EXPECT the contestants to put a different spin on a song -- I mean there are musicians competing now -- not just singers -- in the last few seasons I can really tell the difference between contestants who have musical training and those who just like to sing. Those who rely on just their voices have got to stand out with kick butt, interesting vocals not just a well sung song or -- sometimes unfortunately -- an outrageous perso

nality. I'm sticking with Luke Menard and -- unfortunately -- Chikeze Eze going home Thursday. I don't think Danny will go -- he was way too funny last night and even though David Hernandez sang a seriously chick song -- he has the stripper scandal thing keeping him in the limelight right now -- though it would be nice to get rid of a David. Archuleta won't go for obvious reasons and I don't want Cook to go cuz I think he rocks.
