Yes, there has been Archuleta backlash - from Oscar and John themselves! LOL I like the kid. I'm a little nervous that he's going to get on my nerves but I hope that he doesn't. I DID download that version of "Imagine" - the only song from an Idol contestant I felt I'd actually pay for. If that doesn't make him a contender to win this whole thing, I don't know what does. I sure as hell wouldn't pay for any of Danny Noriega's renditions.

I hate to see these messages attacking Oscar just because he pitched a bit of religious rant. Oscar is a fine writer and obviously a person of high moral character. In fact, if he carefully crafts his messages of hatred, I'll be ready to march on Poland for him. Sieg heil, Oscar.

I disagree that he's overrated, but that's only because I'm a big fan of him so far. I definitely think that it's somewhat dangerous for such a young kid to be lavished with so much attention, as we've seen how well that's turned out for the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. America always turns on people eventually, but Archuleta seems to have the heart and the talent to survive the backlash.

There have been various people and institutions I have bashed on this site for no real reason at all. Only when it comes to religion do people get very, very upset. Archuleta seems like a very nice kid. That's all that matters, right?

You should be able to voice your opinion about whatever you want from religion to politics. David is a very nice kid but I do want him to drop the Melinda "Awww thank you" act. Please, the kid sang "And I Am Telling You" for Kelly Clarkson when he was like 13 years old. He knows how good he is!

Singing that song to Clarkson in the airport isn't just an indication that he knows he's good, it also shows that humility is not who he is. On Idol he acts all "Gee, really" and humble about the praise, but clearly he loves being the center of frigging attention and making a spectacle of himself.

Eh, I kind of hate that whenever someone is humble and nice, everyone has to assume they're secretly !@#!@y and full of themselves. Why can't people just be legitimately humble and nice? Why is that so hard to believe? The same goes for Melinda Doolittle.

You know, Oscar, I think everyone would agree that you can say whatever you want... but honestly, the mormon bashing just makes you seem like a lowlife, that's all.

I also agree with the author's sentiments as it's clear that the producers want a Disneyesque "cash-machine" like Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers and are pimping David A. like no tomorrow. The spirit of the competition is lost when one contestant is so clearly favored to win (deserved or not). Yes, he sings well, as he should with a vocal coach for 6 years and appearing on 2 seasons of a televised music competition.
