American Idol is a pop singing competition.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  Being a pop competition, the first three seasons of Idol featured, almost exclusively, singers firmly entrenched in the pop genre.  With season 4, this changed as two older, long-haired rock singers paved the way for the non-bubble gum crowd.  Bo Bice and Constantine Maroulis, no matter one you may think of them, were the first of their kind on American Idol, paving the way for (depending upon your definition of “success&rdquo the most successful male singer in the show's history in Chris Daughtry.  Season 4 also was a major season of change by Idol.  One of the things I respect most about Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe and crew is their inclination to not just rest on their laurels and be content with the show they're producing.  After a few years, things get stagnant, and the Idol brass realized this and made some fairly major changes going into season four, including raising the age limit, bringing in celebrity judges and significantly altering the format.

Oh, and it was also the season of current country superstar Carrie Underwood, if that does anything for you.

I would think Constantine would be more of a notable idol than Anthony or Jessica (who also just released an EP of great songs that you failed to mention), considering he has stared in the Wedding Singer on broadway, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris on off-broadway and the soap the Bold and the Beautiful, as well as releasing his own CD last August.

I saw this tour. It was god awful. There were very few people worth paying to see besides Carrie. Let's see... there was Carrie... annnnd... yup that's it. Too bad I had to sit through crappy duets by Jessica and Scott to get to the good part. I liked Vonzell, though.

Constantine really messed up. He had his 15 minutes and got so tangled up in his own underwear and ego that he became a nobody in under 10 minutes. Except for a few fat 40 fraus, he's not considered notable alum to anyone else.

Yeah, looking back, it was a reaaallly weak season in terms of talent. I'm surprised that's possible given the amount of good singers who try out. The Hollywood rounds always strike me as bogus.

Constantine set the stage for all future AI rockers. He showed alot of talent, stage presence on AI 4th season. Let's not forget his awesome performance of Queens' BO Rap. He has done numerous Broadway shows, too. I have seen him perform numerous of times and it is not to be missed!! He ROCKS!!! I love his new cd, self titled...CONSTANTINE...pick one up & check it out. Never liked Constantine ... he gave me the creeps. The way he would always give that smouldering look to the camera ... ick ... really disliked him on B&B, too ...
