American Idol Top 24American Idol “officially” announced the top 24 singers for season 7 tonight. I write “officially” in fake quotes because all 24 were correctly identified on a list leaked more than one month ago. So these auditions were truly a waste to us fans, who already knew who'd be singing for our votes.

In this one-hour episode of American Idol (wow, only one hour, how did they squeeze all that information into such a small period of time!?), we saw my second favorite part of Hollywood week, after the group sing (which was sadly nowhere to be seen). It's the ELEVATOR!

The finalists seem younger and prettier than last year; I think that is a conscious decision by the producers.

Last season was short on talent and short on looks. We don't know about the talent yet, but given how bad last season was in every regard, I'm guessing that the producers told the judges to up the eye candy factor.

As I posted in this show's "live thoughts", I agree that they need to show more of the 1st round performances and less of the awful and formulaic audition shows. It does do a disservice to the contestants who have had almost no airtime and whom we've never seen perform.

Kyle may have been cut to avoid another "Vote For The Worst" campaign.

I'm so disappointed that Angela from the Philly auditions didn't make it to the top 24! She was the single mother whose daughter had Retts Syndrome. That girl was so pretty, and she had a beautiful voice. What a shame! I hope she comes back next year.
