Let's get something clear about Taylor Hicks: he hasn't exactly bombed post-Idol. Chris Daughtry has certainly sold more CDs. However Hicks is doing great business on the road, selling out venues and getting rave reviews from concert-goers. Taylor's appeal is to an older demographic, 35-50 mostly, and those people just don't plunk down for CDs like the younger set who support Chris. What's more, Taylor's gotten the cold shoulder from Idol this season, and it's well-known that Simon Cowell has despised Taylor from the get-go. So let's see what happens as time rolls on, when Taylor's still going strong and Daughtry's fans are all locked away in reform school. BLAKE RULES!!

No, Taylor hasn't bombed, AI is about discovering the next superstar and Taylor doesn't come close to that. Part of the reason is that Taylor's vaunted "Soul Patrol" abandoned him somewhere along the way. And that's the interesting thing about Idol. The Idols start with this huge fan base but there's no guarantee that they will follow beyond the show. Since season 1, Ryan has constantly bragged about AI setting records for viewing and voting, but that doesn't always translate to sales and post-Idol success. Kelly and Carrie have done so well because they've kept their fan base and added millions while putting out great records. It will be interesting to see what kind of record Blake puts out and whether he can move beyond his fan base of pre-pubescent girls and teens. My sense is that he'll want to put out edgier, less mainstream music but whatever record label he signs to will want to push stuff that caters to his young fan base and that may end up turning away any potential older fan

Boy has AI gone down the tubes - sorry but Blake has weak vocals. One week he received more praise than ever, the band was so loud, I couldn't hear him. How did the judges? But all AI is concerned about is the money. They did not want to get stuck with more 29 year olds without genres. Money, greed, money, greed this is what AI is about.

I am so upset over these message boards and this show! Did you all know that more people vote for American Idol than for the American presidency? Doesn't that seem disgusting to you? You guys waste your petty criticism and harsh comments for people who most likely will not affect your personal lives, yet you all complain about George W. Bush as president when statistics show that most of you did not even vote for the presidency! That is sad. And I believe that the saying is right: We deserve ou celebrities and presidents, because we do not do anything to prevent them from happening! Shame.

To Roger: LOL, that was funny, and I agree with you
To Jonathan: food and entertainment is what the crowd wants (that's what ancient Romans screamed at the gladiator fights). I don't think it's shame - it's part of human nature.

Get over it, Jonathan. Why are you bothering leaving a message on this board, then? Don't you have some more important political message board to read? The fact that more people vote for AI than in elections shouldn't surprise you. One, AI lets anybody vote (kids allowed) and two, it's easy. Pick up the phone, dial or text. No ID check. If voting in elections were that simple, more people would do it. Beyond that, we Idol viewers, so passionate in our debates over contestants, are also responsible for helping to raise $70 million dollars for charity. Show me another politician, let alone TV show with that power or influence. Shame on you, Jonathan. What have YOU done to help make the world a better place besides criticizing the rest of us who've actually done something to make a difference?
