| Sanjaya Malakar is no Fred Astaire. This should be self-evident. However, Sanjaya tried to channel the late, great dancer/singer/actor with his rendition of “Cheek to Cheek” on Tuesday, a song made famous by Astaire in the 1935 film “Top Hat”. You may have seen the Astaire version in "The Green Mile", where it was featured in one of that movie's more emotional scenes. The song, accompanied by Astaire's dancing, makes for an incredibly beautiful scene in "Top Hat", an iconic scene, one that is subtle and moving and flawlessly executed.Kind of the exact opposite of Sanjaya's performance on Tuesday's American Idol. | I thought Sanjaya's "welcome to the universe" comeback was a nice tongue-in-cheek comeback. Last week Simon told Sanjaya he was in his own universe, this week Sanjaya jokingly welcomes him to that universe. Sanjaya can read and write, so he's certainly well aware of the atrociously bad press he keeps getting -- now he's making the best of it and having a good time while he's at it. |

I feel sorry for Sanjaya if he really thinks it is "his universe" instead of seeing what the "real universe" is awaiting him. Reality will hit him once he off the show as time is ticking down for him with each grain of sand. He shows his age when speaking back to Simon.

I hope he takes the whole thing so it is proven that this show is the worst thing to happen to music ever. Talent is irrelevant on this program and Howard Stern is proving it by keeping that alien on week after week. American Idol is unbearable.

I dont agree that he has become rude, eventually things get to you. He saying "welcome...***" would have meant surcastically to simon, that you may not like me..but others do...And now age comes in..people say he is speaking out of his..age..was age an issue when people were making fun of him..did they say young kid trying his best..no at that time he is a contestant...And agree to it or not..its nothing else than the color of his skin thats putting all this hatred....anyway..i might be wrong..but thats my view..and not afraid to express it..anyway though i watch ..and dont vote...anyway he isnt buying votes..he is getting through some means..its all saying all actress have acting skills..many dont have more than their skin to appeal...this is life..there is only place for a survivor..

I agree with Robin. Sanjaya is demonstrating his guts, his charm, and his ability to take relentless criticism in a sarcastically good-natured way, rather than doing the bitter Alaina eye-roll. I love watching him and we all love talking about him. What a great compliment to his hard work.

I thought it was ridiculous that he said that. It was painfully obvious how sarcastic Simon was being and yet, Sanjaya thought he was serious. How naive can someone be? It was a terrible performance and Randy and Paula didn't really say anything good about the singing; they only talked about his "performing"...different things. But I still can't figure out why the judges have stopped saying negative things to him. They haven't stopped for the others. Is it because it is useless? I think they still should because, based on what he said Tuesday, he is believeing he is good and that will only hurt him later, I think.

Sanjaya is a punk who would get his ass kicked out in the real world. He is worse than William Hung. It is sad that he actually thinks he is good. If I knew the judges hated me and laughed at my performances I would quit. He has to know he is only on there because people are voting for the worst.

I am absolutely sick to death of these people voting for him because he is bad. It is completely unfair to the other contestants and unfair to Sanjaya. Whoever these idiots are they need to think about what they are doing to people just to get their laughs. IT's SICKENING!!!!!!

If Sanjaya is still in next week, me and everyone I know will not be watching anymore. Idol and Fox ratings will be going down. He is horrible and everyone knows it. Alot of talent has been wasted because he is still there!
