One of the big stories this week, leading up to tonight's American Idol performance show, has been what kind of hair Sanjaya Malakar will be sporting when he comes out to perform. Personally, I'm hoping for a shaved head, but realistically, I don't think it's possible to top the absurdity of last week's pony-hawk. Anyway, tonight should be an interesting episode, considering it's do-or-die time for a number of performers. With a poor performance, I think Phil Stacey, Gina Glocksen, Haley Scarnato, or Chris Richardson could be sent home. So yes, I think only the clear cut top four (Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks, Lakisha Jones, and Blake Lewis) are completely safe this week. What follows are my quick, unfiltered thoughts while watching tonight's edition of American Idol (updated in real-time). To read the rest, click here.

I called 4 times tonight and when I asked for number 3 and 9, the gentleman told me I had voted for number 5, everytime I called, they will answer I voted for #5. I knew exacyly what I was doing. Someone is plugging #5. I think it is shame. I won't vote again.

am i the only one who looks forward to sanjaya's performances. He's so refreshing, he's a good entertainer, who just has fun, and understands that ppl are hating on him and that he's taking it with stride, good on him. The show just has ppl that can sing huge notes, but are not entertaining. I think Sanjaya is winning us over. Also damn haley is hot, i'll vote just to see her legs again next week. Oh and Jordin she deserves to win so upbeat and happy and she's so cute i love her too!!!

Exaclty, Sanjaya had a few lousy performances in the beginning bu he has only improved since while singers like melinda and lakisha seem to have brought it too early and have plateaued since...now they just sound the same every week and very very boring

AI has lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned as a talent show and singing competition! The judges (clowns) have gotten to the point where they don't even critique his performance (which was nothing short of pathetic, again) as they do the others! It is painfully obvious that this poor talentless kid (Sanjaya) is being used to bring ratings by the producers.the longer he stays on there, the bigger the controversy will get, the better the ratings will be.yes, its that simple folks! The joke is on all of us who think this is about who the best singer is...its all about ratings!

When Jennifer Hudson was eliminated, both Jon Peter Lewis and John Stevens remained in the competition. I wonder what they're doing now. Sanjaya will likely be in this competition until the bitter end; as soon as the show ends, his 15 minutes are going to be up just as quickly. Voting for him is a joke for some and a way to "teach Idol a lesson" for others. Keep it up, and there will be no show to which we should teach a lesson. In the meantime, think about all the talented kids you're all hurting by voting for Sanjaya to make a point. That, my friends, is the saddest thing of all.

I thought Phil's song was excellent. He sounded a lot like Harry Connick Jr. I don't get the hate from Simon. Has anyone noticed that Lakisha NEVER takes the coaches advice? For example, Tony Bennett told her to hold the end note. She didn't. What's her name told her to chose another song other than Diamonds are forever. She didn't. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Lakisha has a plan. At first they tried to depict her as poor single mother, sort of another Fantasia. But actually she has had a lot of formal musical training. Again, she is in this to win. She has a plan. All of her choices are very deliberate. this is a good thing and I like her alot (although I hope Doolittle wins), but it's interesting how Idol trys to create what they want the audience to see instead of the reality.
