Forget the efforts of Howard Stern, VoteForTheWorst, and the decentralized 'hey vote for the bad kid' grassroots campaign that has lifted Sanjaya from most likely to dissonate his way off American Idol, to the one most likely to win; to listen to American Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, it's not only possible - it's perfectly explainable. With not only cynical public sentiment calling Sanjaya as the first tone deaf American Idol champion, but online polls such as AOL's Pick Your Favorite carrying Sanjaya as the likely winner, is Lythgoe preparing us for the worst, or does he have a point? To read the rest, click here.

Maybe this whole Sanajaya-gate will be a lesson to the producers. Instead of higlighting freaks at the beginning of the season and actually choosing some of them to compete, maybe now they'll start choosing people who can actually sing. Then AI would be the singing competition it's supposed to be.

What MIGHT be cool is if they have regional competitions throughout the year with the final event taking place with a subset of finalists from those competitions. I mean, when you find out they are knowingly letting people with no hope of getting a spot onto the screen for 'entertainment' value, while hundreds of talented singers don't even get 30 seconds in front of some intern, the veracity of the whole thing is in question

Blame the $100 million man, Simon Cowell, for this supposed Sanjaya debacle. Look at the flippant way he conducted himself during the audition process. Cowell is supposed to be the smart guy with all the right instincts--and Fox pays him craploads to protect the franchise. Plenty of good contestants got the boot from the judges while Sanjaya sailed through and now the AI brass are sitting there with egg on their face and something else in their pants. Don't believe the spin. If Sanjaya wins this year, Idol is finished. Remember Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in 1999-2000? It was the hottest thing on TV, three nights a week, and it crash-landed. Entertainment is a volatile business, and Idol is well on its way to becoming a Trivial Pursuit question if this keeps up.

Sanjaya can sing. He may not be the among the top few singers you have now but he can sing. Hatred towards him now is mostly racial. I have not seen so much hatred towards any other contestant. People concentrate on his Fathers Indian roots, not on his Italian mothers'. You should be ashamed of yourselves.Let the voters decide how long he stays. Thats only fair.

Nothing against tweens, some are good. But face it, "cute" don't make you tallented. The american Idol is all about tallent. Not looks. Is not American Model. I'm not a professional but Sanjaya hasn't got what it takes, to be this far into compatition. Can't carry a tune, can't sing in key, and isn't that cute. Come on girls, take a close look. there are much better looking boys out there. You are hung up on a under dog immage. If this boy wins will be the last time we watch show. i'm not the only one. They took a pole here and 98% said they wouldn't watch either. Look at Melinda Doolittle she has more tallent in her little finger than Sanjaya has in his whole body. If she would loose out to him, Then there is something going to have to change in vote processing.

I am beginning to think that American Idol, has forgotten about the contestant that sprained her ankle last year and Simon, Paula and Randy guaranteed her a spot on American Idol this year keep your word. And bring her back.

I'm 71 years old and haven't really watched America Idol. But one day I caught this young teenager doing an old fashioned song and dance routine, get roundly insulted for it, and felt a tug in my heart hoping he wouldn't get booted off. Since then I've been following the show. THere are dozens of performers with magnificent belting voices but few who really tug at your heart. THis is the difference of Sanjaya.

Maybe AI will learn to do what Dancing with the Stars does- 1/2 Poeple vote- 1/2 Judges- that's how it shoul dof been from day one! Has no one at the top figured that out?
