sanjaya-sucks.jpg Sanjaya isn't going to take insinuations that his continued presence on American Idol is a fluke, and he's sending his family out to prove his point!  For a while now, Sanjaya has been the whipping boy of the entertainment press.   There isn't even the slightest attempt, it would seem, to find good in his American Idol performances anymore.   And why should we?  With the strength of Howard Stern's humongous audience, and the unwaivering support of anti-idol phenomenon VoteForTheWorst.com, nothing we can say out here in the press is going to slow this train down.  Despite the obvious impact of these campaigns to snipe the American Idol contest in favor of the waifish warbler, Sanjaya's family wants it known that their boy is winning this all on his own.

American Idol has become a gage that measures the lack of taste of the american public! Whoever John Doe with no voice at all may win this "contest". What kind of public is casting their votes?

Sanjaya will be safe again. You have self proclaimed pop culture idiots like Thompson telling people that Sanjaya is being voted legitimately. Then Idol producers saying that VFTW and Stern don't amount to anything.

What turds to think people are that stupid. I don't feel bad the show is losing credibility, just that decent young singers are going to have to suffer through a crappy tour and be subjected to a tone deaf singer for a year.

While Sanjaya seems to be a very nice person he must know that he is not a singer and actually with the exception of Jordan and Melinda every other singer has had pitch problems. Lakisha has a wonderful voice but strays a tad on the low end (which she will get away from as she sings more).

But Idol was a stepping stone for kids that may never have otherwise been heard no matter how many good singers were rejected from the early process.

It is a shame there are always small minded people that have to ruin an otherwise entertaining program

People voting for Sanji are not necessarily small minded (though some certainly are). From a socio-ecomomic point there may be a reason people are acting out with their support: Americans elected a president who was/is a drunkard, woke up one day at 40,told his daddy he wanted to be chief-- and we went along, hanging chads, supreme court and all. We buy the cheapest of products and will pay the highest price if the BRAND is right for our ego (7, Hudson, Citizen, True Religion are those crappy jeans really worth 300..? Just as the great Egypt's decline began circa the eating of mummies, it's a safe bet that all we're truly witnessing, in this repressed DARK AGE, when stem cell research is a taboo, we're losing a needless, endless, amorphous war; and homosexualty is barely -GULP- acceptable- is our slide from the APEX. The lights are dimming, the party is ending, and WE THE PEOPLE deserve Sanjaya, he shines a light on what we're really about although professing to be something better.

Am no Idol fan, yet to watch a single episode...so I cant say who should or should not stay. Though all this Sanjaya parade of opinions has made me follow the news... This Sligh comment seems more like a case of sour grapes...Sligh obviously, doesnt know anything about losing gracefully...

to Anita (India):

Chris actually said: 'You know what I think it was? I never came into this wanting to win it. I come from an indie / alternative rock kind of background. For me, I think winning would hurt what I was really going for. I think what solidified it in my mind was when I was universally trashed for my arrangement of 'Endless Love.' I kind of thought it wasn't the competition for me. Actually, I almost dropped out that week. I went to the guy from 19 [Entertainment] and said, "If I drop out, can I still go on tour?" And they were like, "No, you have to get voted out." So I was like, "Well, we'll see what happens." This week, I really thought it was a good song for my voice and I gave it my best.'

and about Sanjaya he said: 'I think people underestimate Sanjaya. He's 17 years old. When I was 17, I don't think I knew how to sing in a live situation. I have a lot of respect for him, and I do not envy his position at all.'
