Defying any sort of rational anlaysis, Sanjay Malakar lives to sing another week on American Idol. Talent-wise, you can make a great case that Sanjaya should have been booted weeks ago, during the Top 24 episodes. Heck, I'd be willing to say that Sanjaya should not have even made it into the Top 24. But that is neither here nor there; Sanjaya is still around, to the bemusement of any relatively sane objective observer. His voice is weak, his performances have ranged from flat-out terrible to bizarre to yesterday's somehwat-passable-but-still-bizarre. What more do the voters need to oust him from what has been dubbed a singing competition?Of course, American Idol is not, by any means, a singing competition, no matter how many times Simon Cowell says otherwise. It is a popularity contest that masquerades as a singing competition. People have to make an impact to get their votes, they have to fill a niche, they have to appeal to a broad audience in ways the other contestants don't. That's one thing you can say about Sanjaya: he certainly isn't like any of the other contestants. To read the rest, click here.

there are probably a dozen better singers at the local junior high school than sanjaya.... he is ridiculous! the travesty of it all is that people with true talent are losing an opportunity to advance, because this clown is allowed to stay largely due to the vote of teeny bopper america...

It's not only Sanjaya. Haley is horrible as well and still on the show while the much more talented Stephany is out. It is about image but also about segments of populations voting for them. I bet that all San Antonio and half of texas is voting for her just because she is Texan. Maybe the Hindu communiy is voting for Sanjaya. it's too bizzare and this season has become a parody.

I have but one question for all of the "votefortheworst" voters. If, and I doubt it happens, Sanjaya were to win, Are you going to support him further by buying his music? Think hard on this question before you continue to make a mockery of this contest.

One of the problems this season is that there is a vast disparity of talent among the finalists. Because of this, an individual such as Sanjaya who obviously is short on talent only fuels the controversy when he makes it another week. Anyone who knows anything about music knows that he is the weakest link, and I think he knows it too based on his sheepish looks when someone else gets voted off. I actually think his best performances were in the auditions. Since then he has regressed. I bet Simon wishes they had not put him through to Hollywood. But maybe A.I. thrives on the controversy. No matter who wins, people will keep watching.

it's NOT a singing competition when you take into consideration everything it takes to make money off this thing. let's face it, the auditions are auditions for a puppet show. barbera made it, because the producers thought she'd stir things up, and make people watch, that in turn, made companies advertise and spend lots of money to do it. remember that the south is very powerful when it comes to voting. that's why haley is still there. she's good, but do you want to buy her cd? maybe if you're 50. the talent that's there now, is not bad, but look at it from a producer's point of view. who's gonna sell? does sanjaya remind people of a young michael jackson? does the tongue ring that gina sports send a good message to children who watch the show? is doolittle's "oh my god, am i really that good" facial expressions going to get old? what does america want? someone, like blake, who brings something different every week? you never know what he's going to do, and that keeps vot

As big a smear on the American Idol reputation as Sanjaya is, the producers are getting their jollies from the controversy. Water coolers everywhere are abuzz with the fact that this kid is still on the show, and that keeps people coming back for more. American Idol is televised heroin, and the producers wouldn't have it any other way.

Sanjaya has to know he is the worse singer and has been for weeks. Based on everything that's going on against American Idol, the only PROPER AND right thing for him to do is to back out, pull out, quit AMERICAN IDOL and lose gracefully rather than win only because he's the worse.... win as a loser.... what a concept!!!

I'm sorry, folks, but it's NOT a singing competition, or shouldn't be just that. The name of the show is American Idol, not American Singer. And it's quite a distinction. Singing is almost incidental in the pop world. It's about image, clothing, attitude, style, appearance, danger, controversy, ambivalent sex appeal. It's a carnival and a freak show. Step right up!! Elvis, Little Richard, Jagger, Rod Stewart, David Cassidy, Steve Tyler, Elton John, Michael Jackson--all of them AC/DC, male/female, androgynous, freaks, all of them American idols. Truth is, Sanjaya should win the competition if the show remained true to its historical context. If you're looking for "talent," by all means turn the dial to PBS.

So glad I wasn't home to watch the results show. I really don't know if I can handle watching anymore, as long as Sanjaya is on. It is mildly amusing, though.
