American Idol: Top 12 Performance Show, Quick Thoughts

American Idol hits the big stage tonight with an epic two-hour episode that will see performances by all 12 remaining singers. We're going to try a newer, sort of live blog format, so everyone can follow along as the broadcast progresses. With that in mind, feel free to comment below on the action (and forgive any minor typos; they're only temporary).

“This is American Idol!” excalims Mr. Ryan Seacrest. Are you all ready out there? This two-hour marathon will be nothing short of exhausting. This is the first American Idol episode in the big theater. And it is BIG. It's got all sorts of sparkly lights and whatnot. Lots of moving parts. Almost enough to give me a seizure.

Wow, three more months. American Idol goes on forever.

The band is bigger than it was in previous weeks. This is good, I suppose.

First time the guys and girls will be performing on the same night. Randy thinks the guys need to step up.

Sanjaya has the presence of a cold, wet, noodle. How much longer can this go on ?

I keep wanting more out of Brandon, but at this point he's probably just not capable of more. Didn't like Sligh's arrangement, but loved Blake's. Happy with Phil's performance--such an improvement over last week! Totally agree with Simon about Chris Richardson's vocals. Weak. Melinda and Lakisha are always amazing, as well as Jordin. I don't have much of an opinion of the rest except that Sanjaya doesn't belong in the top 12.

The guys are on a lower level, Chris was still very nasal, Sanjaya doesnt belong in the top 12, Gina is still shouting instead of sining- but it was better.
Chris ruined a great song in Endless Love...Brandon, Haley and Stephanie stumbled through their words- Brandon was the worst, Stephanie's was subtle- Haley's was pointed out as a topic of discussion- good thing she sang the song well, and she is stunningly beautiful...Lakisha and Melinda are in a whole other league- BUT- they dont have the appeal of an "American Idol"- the are just Great singers- and it is about a little more than a voice- it takes the look, the appeal and the veiwing audience to rally behind an unknown to make them into someone. I think the front runner from the guys is Blake, even though I didnt like him as much tonight...and the girls it's a toss up between Lakisha, Melinda and Haley (longshot- but looks unbelievable- and has a voice, with some experience)..

Sorry to say , but the truth is Sanjaya is the worst ever to be top 12,, he suks.. he needs to leave soon .. please

k, sanjaya has got to go- why is he still there?! Love blake he is sooo cool and hot. Haley looked as tho she was trying the sympathy card. loved the way melinda sounded. getting bored of lakisha.

Seriously who is voting for Sanjaya, he must have a huge family.. Melina is the only one who can pretty much bring it.. this is not the best season I am surprised I am still watching it.

Sanjaya is still here because the people who run "votefortheworst.com" are behind him, and I guess today Howard Stern promoted that web site on his show so now all the "Sternies" will be behind him too. They encourage people to vote for Sunjanya over and over again for the whole two hours straight. They want to fix the injustices in the current audition system by committing another huge injustice -making sure the worst singer makes it on tour. Don't you just love it when hypocrites get on a crusade to right all the wrongs in the world?

My favorite part of the whole night was the Simon/Ryan banter where Simon joked that Ryan should come out of the closet....classic!
