American Idol - Top 8 GirlsThe top 8 girls make one last attempt to convince audiences to put them in the American Idol top 12.  Here are my quick thoughts while watching tonight's episode.

  • Ryan Seacrest is wearing a turtleneck and Simon is showing a gross amount of man cleavage.  Interesting choices, guys.

  • Jordin Sparks starts the night off with a little Pat Benatar.  I know I've been jones-ing for some Benatar lately.  How about you?  The song feels a little too big for her at the beginning.  It was pretty good, got better at the end.  Randy likes it, but Paula goes crazy over it.  Simon brings us back to earth.

  • Carrie Underwood will be singing on the show tomorrow night.  She's good.  I'm mildly excited.

Am I totally stoned? How is it that Jordin Sparks' note at the end of her song continued LONG after her mic dropped to her side?! What kinda lip synching possibilities are there?

I honestly think that her voice is sooo strong, that she didn't need the mic for that note!

When I heard Lakisha's performance tonight, I thought it was golden...spot-on. They should just end the competition because like we saw with Ruben, here comes Lakisha. Then when Melinda sang, I had goosebumps the entire time and I cried at the end. Even though I like Lakisha more and voted tonight for her, I believe Melinda is a more mature vocalist. However I do prefer Lakisha and I think she appeals more to the Amererican Idol audience. Whom do you think was better?

I completely agree. The ladies are so much better than the guys I can see the top 6 being all girls. Lets hope the guy get better. It's like they stayed up all night and had a party.

Lakisha -- what has happened to that singer who in the first performance caused Simon to want to send everyone else home? You're my "Idol", but get back to that spotlight, or else Melinda will be your undoing!

Excellent analysis -- and I agree with nearly all of it (though I had no big issues with Sabrina Sloan's performance).

If this is to be judged purely as a "singing contest", my wife and I agreed that Antonella and Haley should go -- no question. We also agreed that Melinda Doo was #1 tonight, with Lakisha #2.

Lastly, that unspeakable ass Simon is frequently rude and insensitive to some of these young people -- but he set a new LOW with his comments to Haley tonight. (True--though she was way better than last week--she was still, well, not as good as six of the others were.) But there is just no reason for Simon to say the horrible things to her that he did. It is not funny, it is not helpful, it is just mean.

Every week, Simon seems to tee off on several of them -- saying they are not good enough and/or not worthy to be there. But, isn't it ironic that these final 24 were hand-picked (from like 100,000 hopefuls) -- by Simon and the other two judges?! That's pretty damn impres
