"Oh give me a break. Let me have a choice, I'm going to work in a coal mine for 14 hours a day or I'm going to be a runner-up on 'American Idol.' Give me a break, idiot."

Those are the words of an unsympathetic Simon Cowell of American Idol in response to Clay Aiken's wide srpeard admission that he has used antidepressants to deal with the pressures of fame. Clay came clean about his battles with Depression and Anxiety disorder to various media outlets earlier in the month. Cameras caught Cowell spewing venom at a recent audition session for American Idol 6 when the subject of Clay's public disclosure was mentioned by a visiting reporter.

Simon should be more sympathetic. He knows all about depression. He's had to sit next to Paula Abdul for like five years! I get depressed just watching her on TV. I can't imagine how he makes it without popping pills all over the place. Then again with the bucket loads of money he has I'm sure he's willing to endure anything, even Paula's childish punches when she hadn't got anything good to say. But he's got a point, as much as celebs complain about the downsides fame how many of them would actually go back to their old lives, give up their luxuries so they wouldn't have to endure the paparazzi. Not many.

Depression can happen to anyone. Simon should be thankful it hasn't waylaid him. Anyone who has had to endure and persevere through depression knows that Clay deserves support and not skewering for his admission. Hope you feel better soon, Clay!
